View Full Version : Feeler: Would anyone buy these steering rack mounts?

I posted about this on my build thread a month ago or so, but for those that didn't see it, I didn't like the FFR steering rack mount solution. It doesn't fit well. Most have to modify it to get it to fit and even then, it has a very small contact surface where it meets the rack body so it is likely to cut into the rack body over time.

I needed to get something done so I prototyped a few with a 3D printer until I got it just right and then had a mount cut out of 6063 Aluminum. It was very expensive to cut just one so I had them cut 15 of them instead, in hopes that some folks here may want one.

Then I noticed Mechie appears to be moving forward on creating a nice looking mount. I needed mine ASAP and placed the order with the cutting shop before Mechie posted his prototype pic the other day. I don't want to step on anyone's toes and I'm not setup as a vendor here yet, so if there is interest in these, my plan would be to get a vendor account and sell these 15, then not do another run. They are very basic, as you can see in the pic and not a bling part, but they fit perfect and position the rack in just the right alignment.

I could sell these for $49 shipped anywhere in the US. Reply if you are interested and if at least a few people reply, I'll go ahead and get the vendor account setup so I can sell this lot.

Thanks!

I might have back when I was mounting rack and before I got an updated one (with proper directions and spacers) from FFR (that now works the way it should). I like the look far better than the FFR supplied bracket, I assume it also solves the issue with the radiator frame bolts potentially hitting the steering rack bolts (as the frame is not mounted in these pics)?

Hmm, not sure on the radiator frame bolts.... I did just re-use the FFR supplied nuts and bolts here. If clearance was an issue, I'd just run the bolts up through the bottom instead of down through the top.

I might be... I struggled with mounting the early design and am not 100% happy how it fits. I'll take another look at it when I get home tonight and confirm.

Yes, I'll buy one if you offer them.

The lower bolt does interfere with the radiator sub-frame bolt, with the FFR bracket. I had to put mine threads up. Not quite as pretty, but works fine.

I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone who hasn't mounted their steering column yet.

Ok, I will get setup as a vendor this week hopefully. Updates to follow.

I'd be interested if it has no issues with radiator clearance.

My toes feel fine. :)

IMO, if you sell all 15, and have more interest, make more. I'll still have mine, eventually, but free market is all about competition.

Thanks Mechie :) We'll see what happens with this first batch.

I'm in. Let me know when you have something to vend.
