Hey Guys,

2015 is our 20th anniversary and we are trying to plan a bit further ahead than normal. With that in mind, we should have the registration forms up for the 2015 Huntington Beach Cruise-In event shortly, but I wanted to at least make sure everyone knew the date and time.

This year's 8th annual Huntington Beach Cruise-In will be held on Saturday, April 25th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here are some photos from last year. If you've never been to the HB Cruise-In, check out last year's report (https://www.factoryfive.com/whats-new/2014-huntington-beach-cruise-report/).

If anyone has any special requests of ideas for this year's show, let us know!

I went last year for the first time. I will be very sad if I ever miss it again. It's a must do. Hope to meet even more people from the forum in person this year. I'm planning on bring my car this time along with a few other Arizona Cobra Club members and cars.

Thanks, Dave. It should be a blast.

WEK.

I've been a slave-to-the-grind and absent from the forums. Likely won't change too much going forward, BUT if there is something special you guys want to do for HB cruise-in this year, let the crew here know. I'm meeting with a very cool VIP who I am going to ask to come to the show as a special guest, to meet folks, and to sign autographs. No firm detials yet, but the registration forms, web post and all should be up as soon as I know the commit from my friend. I'm stoked as ever for this year's show and will plan on surfing sunday morning if Hoy and anyone else is up for dawn patrol a few blocks north of the pier (14th street was my spot when I lived in HB).

The boys from Vegas will be there . . . working on "winter mods" as we speak. There's always room for improvement on my MKII.
Hope to meet up with a lot of old friends and make a bunch more.
Mike-n-Julie, you better be bringing the [completed] coupe . . . no pressure, but there's more of what I surprised you guys with last year if you do. LOL !

Here is a suggestion FF5 should encourage under construction builds to display their cars. My first impressions of these cars were seeing them at Knots Kit Car and seeing Dan Zio's Plumb Loco under construction. His car was loaded with all kinds of wonderful modifications displaying loads of possibilities for the Kit. I would venture to say that it would be one of the high lights of the show as well as a big seller for the company. Maybe you could have a best under construction award and a place to park their trailers... I am into my 7th year now of construction with tons of Mods... JJ Can't wait for the show... http://i537.photobucket.com/albums/ff334/JOHNSNAKEPIT/IMG_8274.jpg (http://s537.photobucket.com/user/JOHNSNAKEPIT/media/IMG_8274.jpg.html)

I'd consider bringing my 818 up on a trailer. It is just about a go-cart.

I think what you are asking for John is a trophy category for under construction, since these cars are already allowed and encouraged.

I spoke with FFR this AM and we added the "Under Construction" category trophy. Actually I should say added back. It used to be there, because I won it! I don't know why it went away but this year it's back. Thanks for the reminder/suggestion.

Thanks for the great idea. I can't tell you why we dropped the "Under Construction" award, but it's back. Thanks also to Hodgkins and his team for the conference call yesterday discussing this post, the show this year and the idea for a Sunday cruise. I remember Denise and I would ride Ortega Highway when we used to live in HB. One Sunday ride, we stopped at Lookout Cafe overlooking lake elsinore and there was DAN GURNEY!!! To this day my wife makes fun of me because, as she says, I acted like an idiot all goo goo gaa gaa Dan this, Dan that... That was 1993 and I met Dan Gurney and it was at the headwaters of everything that became Factory Five. In my opinion, Dan Gurney (maybe Dave Macdonald too had he not been killed at Indy) is the greatest race driver of all time and one of the most decent guys in the business. I'd love to do a Sunday cruise to there.

Also, we'll have to make a "Chuck" Award, the recipient of which is barred fro winning any other awards. Hmmm. Kidding. Can't wait to see you Chuck!

Looking forward to being a part of this event for the first time and meeting fellow builders! I tried to make it down last year when my 33 was under construction but couldn't make it. Now that it's completed, I will definitely be there!

I think a cruise Sunday would be fun. Keep us posted with the details.

Partly inspired by the naked cobra at HB a couple years ago I took my 33 to a local show minus the main body so people could see the race DNA of a factory Five car. The other big bonus of a work in progress is that it becomes a hands on car instead of just one more in a sea of don't touch the paint vehicles. I took along a seat even though the interior was still bare in case anyone Wookie size wanted a test fit in the car. That is also why I mounted the top to my roll cage so they could check headroom and see the stance of a finished 33 hotrod.

The big bonus was that I spent all day putting children in that seat so their parents could take pictures of them driving a hotrod. The timid ones in each family would stand on the running boards while the oldest sibling was in the seat< several good family shots were taken that way. The work in progress vehicles really help people that haven't had the Koolaid understand what a FF kit car is and why they are fun to build.

For those considering taking their work-in-progress to the show, I highly recommend it. Like myjones above, I took mine to a local cruise night and it was the hit of the show - here it is parked next to my wife's Camaro... she was bummed that mine garnered more comments than hers!!!

Dave (LuckyWinner)! Every year, we spend Friday getting details squared away, Saturday morning from first light setting up on Main Street, so I usually try and sneak out for a dawn patrol on Sunday morning. Two years ago, I surfed on the north side of the pier in front of the first life guard tower at about 6:15 AM with Greg Hoy, a friend of mine who has done a lot of Factory Five videos. This year, I am planning on sending out my short board and I don't have any long boards in HB. I know Dave Hodgkins and some other guys who live out there might be able to score you a loaner. They also rent ugly, useless foam rentals at Jack's and Huntington Surf & Sport.

https://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server1500/6661c/product_images/uploaded_images/dave-surfing-hb.jpg?t=1428862172

Two years ago, conditions weren't great like waist-chest high, mushy. When HB is small, it doesn't really break at high tide, just shore break. As the tide drops, you can get some fun sections outside a bit. I'm going no matter what, but I won't have time for surf until after the show/work is done. Can't wait to see you out there! Last year, I had just finished hip surgery so I wasn't able to surf.

Bummer for me! Had some minor surgery this week for skin cancer on my back and get more cut out in two weeks. That 4 weeks with stitches in me and they want me to "refrain from heavy lifting, twisting or flexing" my back. Yeah, right! I have a roadster I want to start before HB!!

David I feel for you. I had a small tumor removed from my lower back on December 31st. Eleven stiches and similar "restrictions" on what I could do. The good news was that the pathology report came back that the margins were all clean. It is still tender, but I can work on the cars.

Hello all! New guy here looking at maybe purchasing a factory five roadster or coupe. I live in Nebraska and haven't seen any in person yet. I will actually be in San Diego that weekend for a family wedding. Since the wedding is Saturday, I doubt I will be able to attend the show sadly. I was just wondering if there were any other meet ups in San Diego Friday night or stops early that Saturday morning?? It would be awesome to see some in person. Any help would be appreciated.

Tim

Tim, I live just east of San Diego in El Cajon. I will be home cleaning my Roadster on Friday nite before the event, so come on by. 619-571-0573

Try going to the FFR website and click on the "parts" tab. You should be able to do it there, if not just give them a call.

I have a suggestion for an other trophy class; Best build with a donor, isn't that the core of FFR business, at least it was when I bought my kit over 9 years ago.
i attended 5 or 6 of this events, and always had a good time, but when the judges pass any doner build car they seem to brush it off, over the non donors.
Thank you for making all of our dreams become reality. FFR kits are the best in the industry.

Meet Our Special Guests – 11 AM – Noon

http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40458&d=1428862278
Pete Brock - Everyone knows Peter Brock for a different reason. To historic Corvette fans he’s the guy who penned the lines of the original Sting Ray racer and by extension the ’63 Corvette “split window”. To Cobra fans meanwhile, Peter’s the guy who took the brick-like Shelby Cobra roadster and turned it into the slippery Cobra Daytona Coupe – the first American car to grab the FIA’s GT World Championship in 1965.

Pete will be available for autographs from 11:00 AM to Noon on Main Street at the Factory Five tent.

http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40447&d=1428862270
Allen Grant – Allen earned his reputation as a winning international sports car driver, competing for Shelby American. Allen is a member of the world-champion Shelby-Ford-Cobra Racing Team that won the 1965 FIA World Championship with the famous Cobra “Daytona” Coupe.

Allen will be available for autographs from 11 AM to Noon on Main Street at the Factory Five tent.

http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40452&d=1428862274
Jo Coddington – Jo Coddington is considered by many to be the “Queen of Hot Rods.” To others she is the “Duchess of the Dragstrip,” but when speaking to Jo directly she said, “I just wanna be known as a car girl,” this down to earth, “car girl” attitude has been one of the propelling trademarks of Jo’s personality.

Among many notable accomplishments, Jo appeared on “American Hot Rod” with her husband Boyd. Most recently, Jo joined industry women on “Detroit Muscle” building a 427-powered Factory Five Mk4 Roadster.

Jo will be available for autographs from 11 AM to Noon on Main Street at the Factory Five tent.

Man, we are working hard to get there... in the shop till 10-11 most every work evening trying to get the Mistress II done. The Mistress thing goes WAY back, but Mary coined that on #1046 due to the long hours spent in the garage building her. :D

While we have run into a few self imposed snags, things are coming along fairly well. If you think of it, send positive vibes our way so we get her finished and I can drive it down for the event. :)

Tony and Sally were getting the Factory Five tent ready to ship out. Ops Director Nate Johnson's Grand National is NOT making the trip!

We've got over 100 entries and space is limited to 130 cars so if you're planning to register at the event (each year, about 8-12 register on the morning of the event) it might be a better idea to register in advance. We do have about 14 extra spaces on the Pier Plaza available for overflow registrants.

Hey guys,

Factory Five will not be bringing THEIR truck this year but I have Stewart Transport bringing my 289 kit and displaying it at the plaza for the day. So we'll only have room for about 7-8 cars as the truck will be taking up half. Mad Dog, not sure if you factored that in or not. I know we haven't talked about it but Sally and Tony both know and I wasn't sure if they mentioned it. Glad to hear it will be busting with cars though!

Wow! What a day! The HB Cruise-In was terrific. I came to the event with a full agenda in order to plan my build, and I accomplished everything I set out to. I need to thank a few people - David Hodgkins, Will Talkington, Harold Hoover, Mario, Trevor Scrogins, Farhad Farzanegan, David Borden, Kevin Heneghan, Lee Rateike, Chris Lewis, Bill, Bob and Mike (didn't get your last names) and all the others I met at David's BBQ - I know, I should have written everybody's name down... You all have helped me solidify my plan, and I truly appreciate that! Thanks for welcoming Nancy and me into this family. I'm looking forward to all the craziness to come!

Sorry I missed it!

An immediate family member is terminally ill. As a result, I have not planned any extra-curricular activities as of late. I didn't even realize the actual date of the show until the day before. I'm one of the OG's of this gathering and this day is normally one of the highlights of the year.

I did, however, see two Factory Five Cobras driving up PCH in Malibu on Saturday. One at about 4:30, the other at 5:00. I hope they were returning from the show!

Please guys, post as many pictures as possible so I can feel like i was there.

A few things -
Eddie, sorry to hear about your situation. The show was essentially washed out right after the awards!
Al, You're welcome! Glad I could offer something to help you plan your build. Things like that make the trip from AZ worth it!
Dave, thanks again for your generous hospitality! Hope you liked the cigar & homebrew. ;)

Thanks,
Will
