The center console aluminum seems to take up a lot of room in the passenger foot well and we can't find a reason other than cosmetic.

We decided to fabricate a one piece tunnel cover to simplify the look and give maximum foot room for the passenger. Have we missed something? Is there any reason to retain the stock center console?

it serves to hide a lot of the wiring that will go up to the gauges, I used it to mount the fuse box.

I bent mine straight and no legroom loss, my wire harness fits in the center console area

Look at the console I made on the wallace18 818 build. It is straight and works fine. I think FFR did a little copy work IMO. LOL.

I am gonna chop the stock tunnel down so it only sticks up enough for wiring to run through ( 3"). My design is to make a floating tube frame console, It will flow high up from the rear firewall (engine covers) down between the seats and stop at the shifter so there wont be any console going to the dash area. I will have Waynes shifter floating out on the front. Also because I have the hidden electric paking brake I dont need room for a park brake handle so it will be a nice clean smooth curved console. I need to finsh my seat install before I can start on it.

I've been fighting with the wiring, and theres certainly going to be a lot sitting in the area that you've got capped off. I don't think it needs to be any wider than the center tunnel, just needs to angle up, to meet the dash crossbar.

Thanks for all the input! I did not factor all the wiring. On the Cobra build that wasn't an issue...I guess I need to get used to the idea of the engine behind the seats!

Tried to post this earlier but my phone froze up. Saw it at a cruise night this summer. Just another option.

I like the looks of the free standing console. Thanks Bill!
