Most people seem to be going for racing seats low in the chassis but we've gone a little different on the seat setup in our 818. We are going to be using the car for street only and ease of entry and exit is important to us. I had a pair of seats out of a 94 Miata and really have liked the comfort so decided to re-purpose them. The brackets mount directly to the bottom of the seats and we set them up with 3 1/2" rise at the back and 4 1/2" rise at the front.

Pop is about 5' 10" to give an idea of the height of the seats.

Are you building in your living room?!?!

No, Not my living room...Pop's family room. It's a daylight basement so the car can be rolled out the sliding door when completed. We finished an FFR Cobra last year in the same room.

I'm surprised that with so much height added, your Pop doesn't look all that high. With race seats as low as seems easy to get them, we have slight concerns about the thickness of a helmet putting us at or above rollbar height.

A big discovery during the mock up was made when we got the seat to the 3 1/2" height. The pivot on the seat back was now high enough, relative to the fuel tank, that it could recline about another 15 degrees. This made the reach to the wheel much more comfortable as well.

Thats good to know. Thanks for the discovery, it gives me some ideas on how to fit two fit two different hight drivers in the car.

I did the same thing. I raised the seat about 3.5 inches in the back and angled the front up so that it supported my thighs. Much more comfortable and gave me good position for feet on pedals and comfort for longer rides - and then reclined the seat a bit more......

Hi Late Apex
The high seat seems to work for you. It didn't for me. The first picture is with a factory seat with my head sticking 4-6" out of the top of the car.
The second picture (me driving) is with a kirkey seat bolted right to the floor. I'm at least 2" below the bar.
How tall are you if you are sitting on the floor. I'm about 36".

Hi Bob, I'm 6 feet tall even my dad is about 5'10" and he is the one pictured. I just measured myself the way you asked and am a little less than 35" in that dimension. I do sit a little taller than my dad but I am right at roll bar height without a helmet. Again, we are looking at this as a street car only so no broomsticks shall be anywhere near our car!
Harley, spot on to what we found!
