This may be a dumb question, but which way do the Simpson 'Lap' Belts mount? In other words, does the belt with the "Release" mount on the right side of each seat, or the left? Neither the FFR Build Manual or the Simpson instructions are clear about this. A Forum Search also offered no advice on this.

There's not much elbow room between you and the door. For an easier release in an emergency, you should be able to unlatch with the right hand. The passenger should be able to unlatch with the left hand.

I positioned the loop portion on the left, it seems to be easier for a right-handed person to hold the loop in your left hand and feed the other belts on with your right and latch it with your right. I also made the PS setup exactly the same way for that reason and because I can show the passenger exactly how to buckle-up!

I kept the bulky side with the latch on the inside to limit the chance of a passenger or myself dropping the heavy buckle on the painted door jamb when the door is open.

Interesting. Never realized there were so many thoughts about this one. I had my Mk3 set up with both red "pull" release tabs on the door side loop. Whenever I have a passenger, once they're buckled in, I always show them how to open the door and where to pull to release the harness in case of an emergency. Seems natural they're both in the same general area and in the direction to exit. Set up my Mk4 the same way. Sounds like what Bob's describing, but to be honest not sure.

I have the buckle w/ the lever on the tunnel side like billjr212. I also removed those red flag Velcro things because they hindered me getting the belt released.

That's probably not a good thing. That velcro tab holds the lever down during normal use and during a crash. you wouldn't want that to pop open when you really need it.
