Got the call from the driver last night. If his schedule stays on track, my roadster should be delivered on Dec 24th. The driver said he had one to deliver in Greenville before mine, so I'm not the only person in South Carolina who's going to have a memorable Christmas.
I've been busy ordering parts. This came from Breeze today. Fuel pickup and vent, battery box and wiring connectors so the body can be installed and removed more easily.

Since I'm not planning to use a plastic tank cover, I knew it was a good idea to put something between the straps and the tank, so I cut some strips of rubber from an old semi-truck inner tube, then used spray contact adhesive to attach them to the freshly painted straps, painted silver to match the tank color.

Here's the tank, all ready to go.

This came the other day for the 4.6 I plan to install, and explains why there's a Breeze carb-style pickup in the tank. :)

I've got a stack of other parts, but I won't bore you guys with pictures of brake rotors, etc. (I'll save that for when they're attached to the car) Mike Forte says my 8.8 diff should be ready to ship by Friday. I guess you can't tell that I'm a little excited, huh?

Ray, this is great news.
I am a bit envious as I await the call from Stewart myself.
Merry Christmas,
Michael

Thanks guys. I don't think I'll believe this is real until the car is sitting in my workshop. It's been 37 years since the first time I saw a picture of a 427 Cobra, and since that moment that's always been my dream car. Originals are pretty much made of un-obtanium, and for my own use, I wouldn't want one. The stress of piloting a rich man's bank vault down the highway would be too much for me.
I want a decent driver. I have nothing against those who build their car to a show car level. If I had the wallet, I might consider building a second one to that level. My plans are to coat the interior with lizard skin, then go over that with bed liner. No carpet to mold if it gets wet, and trust me, in South Carolina's humidity, it would mold. I think I'll drill a hole in each floor board and seal them with rubber stoppers to take out if I get caught in a gully washer. :-) Anyone want to buy the carpet that comes with the kit? I could use the money for parts...

An early congratulations on your delivery! I am wondering why you are not going to use the plastic tank cover. I think it is a very good idea because there are some things that would penetrate the tank but not that cover.

I have to agree with craigS, the tank cover is a safety item. I would reconsider.
I really don't think there is a mold issue with nylon carpet. These don't have wool carpet with a jute backing like the old days. I think you are trying to fix a problem that doesn't really exist. But, rule #1, your car....your way.
Congrats on the pending arrival. You are going to be the proverbial "kid at Christmas".

Hi Rick,
I'm in Manning, which is about 18 miles southeast of Sumter. The Stewart driver delivered a car to Greenville yesterday, but I didn't ask if it was another Mk4.
Ray,
Welcome. Where in South Carolina are you? I'm in Elgin, northeast of Columbia.

You should see the vinyl siding on the house next door. It's a gray-green color, and it's supposed to be white. Even the outside of my workshop (steel building) has mold growing on it. If I leave a dust mask that I've used to cut the grass laying inside my workshop, it will mold in a week. I'm not kidding, and since that's where I'm going to keep the car after it's finished… Having floorboards that I can clean out with a water hose has a certain appeal, especially since I live on a gravel road.
I didn't think the tank cover was much of a safety issue, since most cars don't have them. Is there a significant difference between the gauge steel of the mustang tank and those on other cars?
