View Full Version : Is it just me or is the Subaru OEM parts catalog very limited?

I'm used to working on VWs. They use a system called ETKA for their OEM parts lookup catalog (illustrations with part numbers). It's very complete and you can generally find everything easily.

In trying to use parts.subaru.com to look things up, there are a ton of items simply missing from the catalog. For example, I need the crush washers for the brake line banjo bolts that go into the calipers. The brake lines aren't shown in any illustration. There is a section for brake piping but it has no picture so you just have to guess that you got it right.

Another example: The bolt that pinches the front spindles to the lower balljoint. It's a non-standard bolt because it is a shoulder bolt and has a very small hex head on it (I think standard for the size would be 17mm socket but this is 14mm socket). It's not shown in any illustration.

When I call the dealer, they can't find it either. I don't need help finding the above two items; I'm more posting this to see if I'm just doing something generally wrong, or if other people have noticed that the Subaru Catalog is quite incomplete.

It looks like they show the pinch bolt for the 02 front hub, in the bottom right corner here:
http://parts.subaru.com/showAssembly.aspx?makeName=subaru&modelYear=2002&modelName=impreza205-5mt-4wdwrx-wagon&ukey_assembly=6025313&ukey_category=54106&assembly=g11-200-01

For our year at least, it seems to be pretty comprehensive. Maybe other years aren't as good?

NewEnglandSubaruParts.com uses a lot of the same charts, but they are arranged a little nicer in my opinion so sometimes easier to find things on there. There may be other dealers with similar websites that build on this base model.

The crush washers are covered in the brake piping section for the 02-04 and it appears the 05+ uses the same coding at least to some extent (diagram item 06588)

I use this site for looking up assembly diagrams and part numbers:
http://opposedforces.com/parts/impreza/

Advance or Pep boys might have your crush washer. The pinch bolt is 901550072

Ok so what about seals. Input shaft seal and output shaft seals for the transmission. This is what the parts catalog shows - no picture of what goes where, just this:

36400

If by output shaft seal you mean axle seals, then they are the two 35x50x9 items.

I've been using http://parts.kirbysubaruofventura.com/. They seem to have a few charts that others are missing and are missing a few that others have. Between three or four of these sites I've found almost everything I've searched for.

For better or worse, it seems the sites that have the catalogs/part number almost never have the best prices. It's a constant struggle between supporting those who have helped and trying to keep a budget.

Thanks Jamie and Boog.

Jamie, yes that is what I'm looking for but still not sure how I would have found it in the parts diagram without knowing the size.
