As you may have read, I crashed my 818 last weekend and I am close to the decision to sell it. The main damage is in that area and includes:

1. Radiator support, front right frame forward of firewall, and front right side of firewall
2. Dent in the rear firewall frame, I assume caused when the engine moved forward.
3. Hood, front bumper, right sail panel, door skins, windshield, front fenders. There is a small crack in the “middle” engine cover. Windshield is cracked.
4. Radiator, steering rack, and right aluminum control arm, right tie rod.
5. Timing belt cover.
6. Pictures are at: http://s1368.photobucket.com/user/CRBasin/library/

Based on my phone conversation with Factory Five--but not a hands on or photo inspection--the frame may be repairable. I, however, do not have welding skills, and Factory Five said a new frame and complete (red) body can be purchased.

The donor car was a 2006 WRX with just under 93,000 miles. I ran the engine after the crash, and it sounded fine. I then discovered the damaged cam cover and have not started it since.
1. A running turbo motor with a new timing belt and a working emissions system. I built it to pass the emissions test in Maryland. It was not tested.
2. Converted 5 speed transmission.
3. CV axles. They are made from donor and new parts and were one of the harder parts of the build since only parts with matching internal spline counts can be used.
4. New front tires (215/40/17) and used rear ones (245/40/17).
5. New NGK seats with sliders
6. Boyd fuel tank and cleanly modified rear firewall. Adds about 3 very valuable inches of legroom.
7. Functioning and clean wiring harness, if you are following the forum, sorting out the wiring harness is a lot of work and not fun for most. More details if you are interested.
8. Brackets for electrical components, exhaust, etc.

I will include my chassis dolly and all parts that were not installed on the car.
The car would be an excellent donor or perhaps a complete project for someone with welding and fiberglass skills. Please contact me through private message if you are interested. We are in Silver Spring, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. Without a strong offer, I will likely buy a new frame and body and rebuild. It should be an easy build since all of the parts are there and much of the custom work--brake lines, electrical, etc--are complete.

John, I have found in the past that Factory Five has been incredible in helping repair damaged cars. They will probably be interested in getting your frame back to their shop for inspection and in return give you a significant break on your new parts that are needed.

Thanks for your comment. I spoke with Factory Five and they have been very helpful as you described. If no one wants the car as is, I will seriously consider their offer for parts and begin a rebuild.

If you have the stomach for it you will loose a lot less by rebuilding. I would have a hard time putting a value on my car in that condition because I know what went into it. I do hope if you decide to sell, that someone will realize that this is the ultimate donor car.

Scanning the photos and mourning the loss of an 818, I saw this picture:

Does anyone know what we are seeing here? Do the original welds have incomplete fusion and are starting to rust inside?

The tubing is un painted inside and will rust, the process will be very slow as there is limited air and exposure. The metal tore at the edge of the weld which is normal.

Has anyone used an internal frame coating? Is it even effective?

If you want it direct from the manufacturer, CRC is the company that provides this to East Wood
