View Full Version : exhaust question
I have a stock 302 setup with the ffr j pipes and EFI, I will upgrade to ffr 4 into 4 headers for 302 , how have guys done the O2 sensors and how has it worked?
Thanks

Get the bungs here, among other places:http://www.summitracing.com/search?SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&SortOrder=Ascending&keyword=Oxygen%20sensor%20bungs
Others can hopefully tell you where to place them.
An alternative, though a bit more $ is this; it can be ordered with a merge collector into which the O2 sensor bung is already installed (samples the collective exhaust, instead of just from one cylinder): http://www.stainlessheaders.com/cobraheaders.
Here's a pic of mine for the Coyote.36234

Hey DaleG, did you use the FF J pipes or have them made at Stainless, and what/why are the wires wrapped in what looks like reflective material.. I am just learning, and starting to plan a build--Build school next weekend.

The Stainless headers replace the FFR-supplied headers and J-pipes. I sold the FFR headers and J-pipes. I use reflective sleeves on any wiring that comes into proximity (maybe overkill, but hey) with the headers. http://www.summitracing.com/search/product-line/thermo-tec-heat-sleeves?SortBy=Default&SortOrder=Ascending&tw=Thermo-tec&sw=Thermo-Tec%20Heat%20Sleeves

Thank you for the information. Will be doing the build in the Twin cities, so Stainless is on my list to check out.

A lot depends on what kind of sensor you have. If it's only 1 or 2 wires, then the sensor is not heated. In that case, it needs to be about 18" from the head so it gets hot enough to work. A 4-5 wire sensor has it's own heater; so it works best in the collector.
It will work OK if you only put it in one header pipe. The collector is better, of course, but use what you have.
Don't put the sensor at the bottom of the pipe. Oil and water condensation will quickly kill the sensor.
