Anyone actually bought the reproduction Lucas PL700 headlights sold by **********:

I know there are other options. Just looking to hear from those who've bought and installed this model of headlights from ********** and what you thought of their performance?
Thanks,
Sean

Yes, those do look nice but are very pricey.

Hi Sean,
I bought a set of the Lucas PL700 (reproduction) Tripod head lights when ********** had a great sale last year. They are pricey but the sale price was an easier pill to swallow. Another FFR owner in the community we live in has a set on his MkIII and I loved the look. They come complete with buckets. I just used the light and replaced the units I got with the complete kit. I find the light intensity is not as bright, but then again it is easy to switch out the bulb for a brighter unit if you want. I was more interested in the look.

Why not try the UK? Here http://www.europaspares.com/cobra-parts/lighting/lucas-repro-p700-headlamps-7.html

Thanks for the info Dave, I like the look as well but was hoping for an improvement in light output over my original, FFR supplied sealed beams. Maybe a higher output halogen bulb is the answer?
Johnnyoz,
There are other sources for these lights, many better quality than others. I don't mind supporting a quality vendor like **********, provided there is some reasonable correlation between price and product quality. I've heard some of the lower priced knock-offs are terrible for light scatter and many coming out of the UK are oriented for right hand drive cars, which isn't ideal here either.

Point taken about quality.Europa seem to sell good quality parts,in fact here in NZ a lot of Cobra builders order parts from them. Also if you actually go to the website, you will see that I specifically posted a link for US spec lamps.Saves a lot of Dollars!

Thanks for posting the alternative. The cost for two assuming $62 per lamp is $124 US plus shipping. I cannot tell if it has the base like the ********** ones apparently do. Depending on shipping this cost is lower definitely lower.
If I order I will support a forum vendor vice going international considering the hassle of any potential returns, etc.

No I do not have shares in Europa. They sell the shells for 22USD.168 plus shipping is still cheap?

John,
Thanks. I looked and at least the photos look like they are of a higher quality... I recall some issues with the FFR supplied lights coming loose but the thread is fairly old so it may not be an issue.
I am changing my mind...I am calling them to see what an all in cost would be for the lights, trim rings and headlamp nest unit and will post what I find out.

Keep in mind that a lot of the reproductions are plastic. Some have a plastic lens, and some a plastic reflector, some both. I have even seen a set that really stick out and don't look right. I would like to get some that have the Lucas emblem in the middle, not a blue dot, and be able to put some higher powered bulbs in them.

Sorry.I have to say this. You mean lights that are glass and have a Lucas emblem like the ones in my link?

I have been doing some reading and found an MG forum where the guy bought some, I don't know where from, and the lens was glass but the reflectors were plastic. Not sure about the ones in your link, which are PL700s not P700s.
The P700 has a dot with "P700". PL700s have a shield with "Lucas PL"
Here is some info and pictures of original PLs:

Mossmotors has "entry level" ones for $119 and "correctly marked" ones for $159. No actual pictures though.(Really, in 2015?) They do have a note that says: "These lamps do not offer high-quality lighting compared to modern standards and may not be legal in all states".
I read where a guy put the Moss Motors ones in an MG. He said they were as bright as his sealed beams, but not as focused. Apparently, from what I have read, most of the reproductions have pretty bad lenses.
