I know this subject has come up a few times but did anyone else think they would break the fiberglass when trying to install the headlights? Its like opening a clamshell to get them in. I realize I will need to trim the buckets but has anyone trimmed more on the headlight than just what the manual recommends? I think if I shave off a little bit of the superfluous plastic on the headlight I will be able to install and remove it easier. It looks like I need to R&R it a few times until I get the trimming right. I would hate to break the fiberglass during that process. Anyone have a reason not to trim the headlights?

Quiny,

As former President Clinton would say, "I feel your pain." I found that I needed to trim the buckets in order to fit the headlight into the bucket and to fit the fender. Without severe trimming, I could not get the headlight low enough for the fenders to fit. Following suggestions by others, I cut out the bottom of the bucket so that the headlight would drop down.

I've trimmed all three parts. It's still tight but it works. Even with the bottom of the buckets cut out everything is tight.

Anyone have pictures of the trimmed bucket?

I had to trim the inside of the fender that contacts the headlight at the top - the eyelid - until it was about 3/16 thick. And, the top of one bucket cracked so I riveted on a strip of aluminum. Yes, headlights require creativity. I'm wondering how the alignment of the headlights will go once I've got the lights wired, so maybe I'm not done.

This seems to be very detailed and accurate not only for the headlight area but some of the other body questions as well. It really is unfortunate the way the search function on this site works. It took a lot reading to find this.

I'm going to try this on mine tonight after I watch Canada win against Russia in the hockey game.
