Has anyone considered a snorkel scoop between the 2 humps for the intercooler? Maybe something like this? Would it look weird or cool?

Add a bit to the concept and you have a hardtop with a scoop. I think it would have to be really tall if it was just between the humps.

I figure it would need to extend past the roll bar, it could probably use the roll bar as a second mounting point.

You just have to look to the sand rail builds to see some examples.

Form follows function, so if it works... Cool. On a hardtop it could look great, think Exige S. Without a top, tough to not look silly on anything but a formula car, IMHO

The thought has crossed my mind. I won't have a passenger seat on my R, and some additional duct work. I will find out when I get in running.

It's going to take much more than a scoop to look good

No roof = silly. It'll look out of place.

Watching the wind tunnel testing of the R made me think that it might benefit from a lowering or removal of the windscreen on the passenger side. Then you would have a more direct flow of air to the passenger side hump, rather than have the air deflected over it. Why not just work with the existing hump as an air intake and, if needed, expand it?

Glyn's method had crossed my mind (in a different context though). On an R-car this would be more feasible, since you really only need to get past the short windscreen.

I hate to sound like a fan-boy, but once again I'd point you to Dennis Palatov's work. The D1 and D4 both use two long humps that cross most of the fore/aft plan view. One is interrupted by the driver, but the other is smoothed out and uses an intake on the leading edge. See here:

Something like that might work if you think of the 818's rear hump simply extending forward and over the front windscreen (or maybe just tucked inside w/the open intake in clean air over it).

This?

Any class legalities in SCCA or NASA about covering over the passenger area?
Wuh-oh. I think my brain may explode.

Yep, something like that. Although, I'm not sure if you'd need to entirely remove the 818R's windscreen, cut out a portion of it, or merely have the taper end under it with the vent in the exposed airstream. I think a lot would be builder preference.

I'm not aware of any concern covering the passenger area...although, they do tend to complain if you forget to let them out at the end of the run...

That looks like it could be the next Batmobile

Thanks. I see your link is working. That is so cool. I am an unabashed fan-boy.
I am now going to see what all I can put into the passenger space besides a fuel cell. The intercooler, for one. Perhaps a set of pedals for the stowaway?
