View Full Version : Asymmetrical Stripes

Mike Mueller and I were discussing how cool this color scheme was on this Galaxy that Kindig-It built. I was curious if anyone had done an asymmetrical stripe on a roadster/cobra, but couldn't find any by searching the web.
Anyone know of any? I wonder what it might look like. I've seen the nose stripes, but couldn't find any that did a driver's side or passenger side stripe.
Maybe the curved body wouldn't look good with it like the big Galaxy.
Thoughts?

I remember one, I think it was a HotRod mag build, back in 2008 or so. I think they used the Windsor BOSS 302 package. It had scoops built into the rear fenders. I'll see if I can find a pic...

Thanks! I've never seen it on a Cobra, so I'd like to. I can imagine not having big panels and hard lines would make it look strange to the eye.

I have seen a double wide stripe on some old racers but they were all centered. I almost did that on mine but, in the end, went traditional.

Well it all depends on writher you are going for an original look or a resto-mod version.
I think it looks pretty cool – will definitely set you apart at a car rally, but is a complete departure from the original.

KD,
That's a really nice car but I can't see what they were going for in that scheme. It just doesn't look right for that body in my opinion. It may be the colors and wheels as well that put me off. It looks too understated for such a large palate. Another thing is that sometimes the eye is drawn or distracted when certain patterns are used like two or four of something like pictures on the wall as opposed to three or five. Hard to say why one is more appealing than the other. It just is.
I saw something at SEMA that caught my eye as well as a very nice original galaxy that was nearly perfect. I didn't take a picture of the original so it must have just not stood out enough at that show compared to the others but still very nice. Here is a pic of the one I did find eye catching. I guess you would have to appreciate the subtle styling that your pic represents to understand it better. I've never seen anything asymmetrical like that on a roadster. WEK .:cool:

I saw that car at SEMA as well. I was impressed with the taping job, that must have taken forever!
As every one says, the paint scheme is probably the hardest decision on the build. I have paint to do about 20 different configurations. ;-> In the end, I'll probably end up with Red with White stripes. Guess I'll have to build a '33 or another hot rod to do some of these variant schemes...
Hello. Here's some trivia for you. The Ford Galaxy with a "Y" at the end is a European mini-van. The full size car is spelled Galaxie with an "IE" at the end.

It took a while but I found a few pics. You'd think car pic from a car built for a major magazine would still readily available on the 'net. I had to use the Wayback Machine to get some of these...
This car was Built by Rob Kinnan for HotRod Magazine and was called Sidewinder:
