I am about to tackle the body work on the doors and have a bit of an issue. I see most guys have the top of the doors flat with the rear jam but mine seem really low. I have the half moons lined up and on the drivers side it is almost 1/4" off. I would just build up the top of the door but I don't want to mess up the outside radius on the outside and inside of the door. Thoughts? Should I build it up and try to get the edges looking good or just live with the level?

I already had to fix the front of the doors because the doors didn't line up with the dash.

Wow, not that's off. I thought my doors were bad and they were but only half of what I see on yours, I built mine up w/ a coat of duraglass then smoothed out w/ rage gold. The top of the rear quarter had a lot of meat to it so I was able to bring it down to split the difference, maybe that will help somewhat in your case. I have to say the body work has been the worst part of my build and I still have some more to do. Good Luck

Yeah..my drivers door is pretty bad..but I may be able to fix the passenger like you said by taking the quarter down a tiny bit too.

I was thinking about possibly copying the curve of the door by sticking sandpaper to the radius and use balsa wood on the sandpaper to copy the radius. Then I could use that as a sanding block to make a new radius after I built it up. Ugh...who knows.

I was under the impression that the doors were lower so that the hard top did not rub on them. The hard top overlaps the doors.

That is what I was thinking to but I have seen several cars with it all flat like this...https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-rY5hwLHhyDk/Thb_JrWPZbI/AAAAAAAAHHQ/mNLZDyj6eIc/s576/2011-07-07_22-36-29_448.jpg

Hey! ^^^^^ That looks familiar! I don't remember the doors needing too much work to line up on top. I had the same problem in front though. The hardtop sits up a little because of the weather stripping so there's no interference when opening the doors.

Hey guys looks like the belt line was low on the door , i sand down the corner of the dash so it meets the door then the rear i do the same there is a ton of material so sand.. thanks!!

Thanks Tony. I ended up sanding the rear quarter down..actually poked a hole through on the drivers side..so now I am fiberglassing underneath to build it back up. I still hd to build the door up a little..its still a work in progress but looking better. The passenger side is almost done as well and came out much better.

Now I hope it isnt going to change the fit for the top too much..but worst case I can fill the bottom side of the top.

Here are a couple updated pix.
