Maybe I don't know my own strength, but the e-brake handle mounting plate started to bend when I set the brake with enough tension that I couldn't push the car by hand.

So I added a bit of 1" angle iron

It was quick, easy, and did the trick.

Woah, yikes. As an alternative, you could get Wayne's k-tuned shifter and mount the base plate of that over the foot of the Ebrake bracket. I have a different ebrake style, but it has a similar front foot. If you're looking for an excuse to get his kit, that is. :)

Good idea! I was on the hairy edge about getting one, but this might just push me over. It solves two ugly problems with one very pretty one. Thanks, Goldwing!

I got a Lokar e-brake and started to use that piece as one of two mounting brackets for it. I ended up ditching it and machining an Al plate like the one on the k-tuned shifter. I was second guessing the extra weight for just the e-brake, but now I'm glad I did!

I got a Lokar e-brake . . .

If you have one handy, could you post a picture of it? I'm not terribly happy with the donor e-brake. The end is awfully close to the shifter when it's down. I'd like to find something more compact.

The compact size is exactly why people have chosen the Lokar. It would be a while before I can post a picture of mine, since I don't have one handy and am not at the garage. However, several of the early builders installed one, I got the idea from Wayne and Tom. You can see photos of both of theirs here (http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?9031-Wallace18-quot-s-818-Build&p=126852&viewfull=1#post126852).

I ordered mine from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Lokar-XEHB-7000F-Black-Emergency-Handbrake/dp/B001NWDT1Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1415985394&sr=8-2&keywords=lokar+emergency+brake), with the leather boot.
