I don't see any details in the build manual of how to mount this piece. Anybody know? Is it necessary?

Do you mean the flat aluminum piece with two humps? I'd like to know also. Anyone?

Yes, that is what I am talking about. No mention in the manual.

I riveted it to the bottom engine cover tray then to the frame. I will post a picture later if needed. It's a 2 piece setup.

In the back of the manual you will find a diagram of all the aluminum. It shows where they go.

The photos Bob posted from the green SEMA car show where it goes but I found that the two pieces should be mounted separately. In other words, if you rivet the two pieces together outside the car you won't be able to get it in under the roll bars. Position the bottom tray first, then place the flat piece on it and attach. No, I didn't learn this the hard way but planned ahead. . . amazing.

I started this yesterday. I put the vertical piece inside the bend if the lower piece. I looked a little cleaner and doesn't leave an open seam for water to get down in. I haven't figured out how to attach it to the engine cover without looking messy or using screws. I dont want it just flopping around.

Here is how I did mine.

So it looks like the engine cover block off is #80602. it's a long L shaped piece with notches to fit around the roll bar. The engine cover block off vertical #80578 is a long piece with two humps. These two humps fit inside the engine cover humps. It makes sense to rivnut the block off piece to the roll bar frame in case you ever have to remove it. Then you can attach the vertical piece to the front edge of the block off piece with rivnuts or just short bolts and nuts and put some low strength thread locker. I will try tomorrow.

I'm not sure you really want to block off that area. Especially for someone building an R

I riveted mine in. Also ran some of the bulb seal across the top which allows it to support the engine cover and give the fiberglass a bit of the arch it needs to fall in place correctly.

I had originally planned to use rivnuts, but could picture any instance where I would really need to remove it. While it would make accessing the front of the motor slightly easier, didn't seem like it was worth it, given I can just drill out and replace the rivets if needed.

I also sprayed the engine side of both pieces of aluminum with rubberized undercoating as I've done with most of the aluminum.

I used 10-24 rivnuts that I had from a Harbor Freight rivet insert tool on the horizontal piece and 10-24 screws and nuts to hold the vertical piece to the horizontal one. Yes you are right I will probably never have to remove those pieces. I have some spray undercoating that I have not used yet. Does the spray head clog up easily if you use over a period of time?

Probably going to depend on the brand. I have been using 3M professional undercoating and haven't had any problems, even after times when I forget to turn it upside down and clear the nozzle. Longest I've had a can last is a few weeks over maybe a half dozen distinct uses.
