Anyone know the definitive answer to the rear hatch vent? Is it pulling air in, or pushing air out?

On an R with short windscreen or an S or R with street windshield?

Whichever, I am very interested to know as well, as I have plans for that opening but the plan depends on the way the air flows.

Another factor is the side openings. How big are they, are they used and restrict flow or just open.

I would say out in both cars. I put a streamer on and it flowed out, but I did not have the humps block off aluminum in. I also have upper rear section cutouts. Honestly you want to get as much air out of the engine bay due to a lot of potential heatsoak. This is why FFR has opened up the R even more.
If you have an R it is possable to run a large scoop between the humps directly to a rear mounted fmc like six star and others. You could even incorporate the side vents to direct air to cooler. Only prob is the air will have the potential for some heat from engine bay in front. Awic might prove to be the best solution if you have it running right. With a hardtop things can change a lot. A Fmic mounted behind rollbar and almost 8 inches off the front of engine inside the hardtop with a roof vent would work so well.3548835489

I took this snap shot from the 818R wind tunnel video.
It looks to me that fast moving air will be about 6" above the vent. This should be enough to suck air out of the top vent.
This is just my gut feel.

I was just curious for oil cooler placement. It not as critical since I have AWIC, and my oil cooler has a fan on it.

I'm very far from that! If I were, someone else would be building my car, like you! haha

I've pitted and partied for/with Miguel Duhamel, I would do the same for you.

By the way, He lives in Vagas, and would love to take an 818 out for a spin.

You'd lose all the fun.
