Hi Folks,

My name is Phil... and I finally decided to go for the FFR Cobra :p... I am so DANG excited!!!

I'm still doing a bunch of research on the engine & tranny combo... I leaning towards the full kit option based on a few post from others who have already built their car...
I've started to put together an excel build sheet to track parts, cost, and build expenses. I do have a FFR Mk3 assembly manual that I'm going through to get a feel for the project, I also just brought the Mk4 assembly manual and the How to build a Cobra kit book as well... just waiting for those to show up in the mail box.

This is going to be my first real introductory into car mechanics..... I just finished a resto-mod on my 1971 Datsun 240z, but it wasn't a total down to the frame rebuild, and I didn't need to do any engine work on the car yet, so hopefully I won't be in over my head with this build... I am plan on attending the build school sometime next spring once it warms back up in Michigan... but between now and then I'll get what ever hand tools I may not have yet and need... and do some more reading and research on the forums...

Have a great day everybody

Welcome to the madness! You're in for a fun ride. A build plan and budget is a good thing. Starting with how you're going to use the car, and then go from there.

Couple of thoughts. You do know you can buy the FFR build manual on-line? It's $10 (as I recall) and gets delivered to you immediately. Aside from saving trees and being more portable, it's handy because you can do searches and find things more quickly. I keep a version on a memory stick and have it with me all the time. The How to Build a Cobra book is interesting and has a lot of good information. But it is a pretty high end build. Don't feel like that's the only thing possible. Another resource I recommend is Mk4build.com. Requires registration and an optional donation. But also lots of great ideas and pictures. The best thing you can do is find other owners in your area to see specific engine and engine/trans combinations and even get rides. Will really help you in your decision process.

Hey Everyone...

thanks for all of the welcomes....

Tony (FFRSpec72) - I'm actually a bit north of Seattle in Shoreline,WA

Edwardb - Yeah I saw that the manual was available electronically, But I'm real old school... I prefer to have the physical book in my hands, I normally high lite things in the book, and put post-it notes, and page marker in all of my technical books... it makes it easier for me to looks stuff up.... thanks for the suggestion to mk4build.com, I'll be sure to give it a look.

Rick (rmiller64) - I'll definitely be following you, and your build... too bad you're so far north of me.... but I'd be more then happy to come north to lend an extra pair of hands if you need.... And actually I'd really be interested in getting together with you and talk cars over a beer.
