This appears to be the upper mount for the 4 link or the 3 link. There is another somewhat similar bracket on the driver's side. I would like to remove these and clean off the welds.

That is indeed what they are and with IRS they serve no purpose (beyond streamlining FFR's manufacturing process).

I cannot believe they go through the trouble and expense of welding these onto a IRS car. It must be a mistake.

No its not a mistake. Much cheaper to make all the frames standard. How would you feel if you wanted to run 3-link and you frame showed up without the brackets. Boy would that cause a lot of *****ing.
I can't believe how people complain about such silly stuff. Don't want it…..remove it.

Mine doesn't have them, and I think I ordered my kit the same day Bill did... (Black Friday 2012?)

I have built lots of IRS cars and have never seen this before. In fact I have a very new IRS Mark 4 in my shop right now and it does not have these.

I found the reason for why I have the brackets. That is the way I ordered my kit. Bruce modified my frame to fit his IRS cage that allows the use of his glass trunkpan. Removing the unneeded brackets is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Some brackets like the lower 4 link mounts, I plan to leave in. Just way too much metal and welds to grind and sawzall out. Maybe if I had a plasma cutter I would do it.

I wondered if you had initially ordered it without IRS and then called back to add the IRS, from FFR, after they had already welded in the 4-link mounts... That makes perfect sense, if Bruce made the IRS cage.

Well yeah, the fact that it left Wareham as a 3 or 4 link chassis would explain it.

Gone! Both sides. What a nightmare!

Time to remove the lower brackets
