This is my first build and when I mounted the FFR heater/defroster to the MK4 firewall, I felt that this was flimsy. I fabricated the below firewall bracket support to mount near the heater unit and tie the firewall to the vertical support for the dash hoop. I drilled some pass through holes for wiring, but can you see any issues or considerations with this installation before I rivet it in place? Ran through the FFR manual, and can not see anyplace where this would obstruct or defeat further build components...

I made a similar brace, for much the same reasons you mention. It really helped to stiffen the firewall.
The only thing is to make sure the openings for the wire harness's are big enough to pass all, and any connectors through. After the first few wires are passed through, the hole gets smaller and smaller..

Looks like a nice bracket! Simple and effective.

Looks like a good idea. Any chance you could provide the dimensions so that I can have a crack at building one? Thanks

i went for a simpler approach; 3/8" wide aluminum strap riveted between firewall and top of vertical dash support brace. stops all firewall flex, no interference with wire harnesses. reflects KISS principle2469.

Sorry, have not checked this for a while...do you still want the dimensions? I have a cardboard template for this that I have lent to another builder.

I bought the firewall support from replicaparts and cutout a section of the vertical support tube to allow the flex heater hose to exit from the Lf side of the heater and run over to the drivers side , behind the dash. Jim
