My kit will be completed on the 22nd. Looking to see if there is anyone in the portland oregon area that is also getting a kit soon and would like to work out shipping together. Let me know, trying to save some money so i can pour more into the car. Thanks :D

I assume you are getting the R? Mine was about 2k f to ship via Stewart to Seattle, so about 1/3 cost of the car.Let me know if you find someone as I may need something shipped also.

Hey another Portland builder!
I had mine shipped to Portland with Stewart and I think it was right at 2k.

Where are you in PDX? *Edit* Now I remember.. Horizontal Motorsports in Sherwood.

Yup you got it. Dang 2k is pricey for just a pallet. If only i could get time off work it would only be like $900 in gas. Anyone know the dimensions of the crate?

I am getting the S model FFRspec. R.Spec is just what I go by in the subaru tuning community haha. Someone called me it and it caught on one day. Now all my subaru tunes are called R.spec tunes.

What do you need shipped FFR?

$900 in gas one way. It would be a cool road trip, but when ya figure air fare one way truck rental, 4-7 days driving bla bla bla, 2k seems reasonable.

$900 both ways. 6000mi/25mpg=240gal*$3.6gal=$864

I had mine shipped to the border north of Seattle for the same price....$2000.
Although it is just one pallet, I shopped around and found higher prices...
Ultimately, I didn't want to risk going cheap and having damage. Stewart did an awesome job for me.
I can measure the frame when I get home, but the rough pallet dimensions are about 7 ft by 12 ft. plus a bunch of boxes.
I think I had some pictures in my build thread...... Harley818S

FFR told me the crate was 16' L x 52" H x 6'6" W. The crate is a $700 option, I haven't seen anyone bother with it if they're doing their own hauling.

Harley you got yours in May right? If so I think we were on the same truck. When my car was removed the driver mentioned he was going to meet someone at the Canadian border next.

Yes Jeff - you were delivered right before me.

Evan78 - if you use Stewart transport, you don't need a crate - they have an awesome set up in their van with overhead cranes to pick whichever car is next and bring it right up to the back.
Crane rails hang over the back so you can drop into your own trailer, or right on your own dolly to roll into your garage.
I was originally going to have a crate but cancelled it and am glad I did.
I just measured the frame and its just over 10 ft. without the front end which is shipped inside. Shipping length of the car package is approx 11.5 - 12 ft plus another 4 - 5 ft for the cardboard boxes.

Yes, I know you don't use a crate for Stewart. Even though I don't see the relevance, R.Spec asked for the dimensions, so I provided them since I had them handy. Maybe he's unaware that you can just pickup the frame/body and all the boxes without bothering with a crate.

Now work the rest of the math. Lets say a 60 MPH average (including fuel stops, etc.) for 14 hours per day. That means you're going to need 3 overnights both directions plus one in Wareham so you're looking at 7 nights of accomodations. Count on $50 a night for something seedy; more if you don't want bedbugs. I expect you'll want to eat during that week also; you could probably get by on $25 a day if you don't mind Mickey D's every meal. You mention taking off work; would that be with or without pay? If you have to give up a week of pay you'll go into the red real fast; even if not after looking at ALL of the costs and investment of your time you might find that $2K isn't really out of line.

Good luck,
Jeff

I agree with most of the numbers except 2.
#1 The factory 5 visit to meet everyone is PRICELESS.
#2 My vehicle only gets 14mpg pulling a trailer.

When I was a kid, my family took the summer on a trip through the western states. This country is to beautiful to just drive thru without stopping. IMHO if I were to drive both ways to pick up the car, you have to make a vacation out of it. Northern route east, southern route west. Make it an unforgettable experience.

I'm with Bob. I view it as $2k I can put toward an adventure/vacation. If you have the time and desire, go for it!

Really? I drug 6,000# of trailer from Indiana to Florida and back with an '09 Duramax/Allison and averaged 15. The truck alone barely cracks 20 on the highway.

Do you have efi live? it jumps up 3-4mpg with that. And stock tires gets 25mpg all day. They bigger tires will lower it to like 23mpg. The stock exhaust with cat also is restricting about a mpg. My coworker with all thta averages 18mpg in town. Lifted, tires, efi live, open exhaust..
