Sometimes it's good to look back and see where the 'art form' of street rods started. I pumped Sunoco 260 into a lot of very cool cars in the '60s when in high school. I wish I had photos of them all. Here's one that I spotted on the net that could have been taken anywhere in the '60s.

For fun, I took one of my '33 photos and converted it to gray scale to see how it looked. It's one I took in front of an old downtown building in the village of Elkhart Lake, WI last year.

Other than the girl's shoes on the right, this one would be hard to place in time.

A few years ago I tried to start a thread for Cruise Nights and Drive-Ins both new and historical. It never got much traction. Here's a less than perfect photo that seems to capture the essence of Drive-Ins of another era.

This is Wayne's Drive-In in Cedarburg, WI. Great burgers, onion rings, malts and shakes. Wayne's has been around a very long time and is complete with Neon lights at the roof lines and on those strange Space Antenna thingies on the top of the building.

Switching some of these photos to Gray Scale brings the Simon and Garfunkel "KodaChrome" song to mind.

Best regards, Tom

Tom, as you know I've played around with your pictures before :D. Here's a highly Photoshopped picture that fits right into your theme here. I took the picture of my friend Ian's all-steel, scratch built, 60's style Model A Roadster Pickup in a grassy field in England back in 2001 just before I came to Canada. Here, I transported it to Bonneville in the 60's.

Hi Ed, I like the Salted Pretzel tires. They look like they really did head to Bonneville. Thanks for adding to the Collection.

My 4 year old grandson was drawing a picture in kindergarten recently. The teacher asked what it was and he answered, "It's a Streamliner at the Bonneville Salt Flats." She was clueless until she looked it up on the internet later on.

Looks like the Car Gene was passed on to him. When he's asked what he likes, he says, "Cars. I'm a Gear Head." This from a 4 year old!

Hi Ed, Both of those are great shots!

My grandson has a pedal fire engine that he raced around the basement.

I doctored this one a bit. Looks like old newsprint now:

After reading about the Skid Marks, I thought the drive-in should be renamed S-Mel's!!!

Nice pic and great comments.

If you find a good use for the Wayne's Drive-In photo, please feel free to use it.
