I just received an email on the latest Atom. Sets a pretty high bar. Here are some stats

Weght: 1,300#
365HP @ 7500rpm
310 ft/lbs Torque @ 4400rpm

0-60mph = less than 2.8 seconds
0-100mph = 6.7 seconds
1/8 Mile = 6.8 seconds @ 103mph
1/4 Mile = 10.7 (est.)
Virginia International Raceway Full Course @ 1:58

Based on 1,800#, we would need about 505HP to have the same power to weight ratio.

Oh well, I guess I'll win on price to performance ratio :D

For $90,000-$9900 you should be able to make well over 505hp.

http://www.arielatom.com/buy-an-atom/ariel-atom-3s/atom-3s-options

that option list is great for anyone who is trying to build something comparable.

365 hp through a 16" Toyo R888 (245/45/16) Rear

Cockpit Adjustable Traction Control is standard.

^^^^ what he said

Not to mention having a metal shop re-fab the 818 frame in aluminum.

or chromoly which would require minimal design change and is still 36% lighter. So 200lbs? right off the bat? That price allows for some seriously light parts.

Running at 490 kg it'd smoke us in the first braking zone and we'd lose sight of it by the third corner, then get slapped on the *** 5 - 6 laps later.

Surprised by the time at VIR of 1:58. This is essentially the same as FFR's target with the new red car. Am I missing something, or is the expectation that the 818R would reel this thing back in on the main straights? Huge fan of the Atoms, but good lord on the price.

Yea, I've always been confused about how these things are so expensive. What am I missing? This thing should cost no more than $30k.

At $90k you could build one bad 818S and a decent GTM. BTW, if I were in the market for an Exo I would look harder at Dove Racing's Rocket or Sonic 7. Just my thoughts.

One of the fellow GTM owners on here has an Atom. 350 whp. Scariest car I have ever been in.

Kalstar I will bite. What about the Atom was scary.

They get the 0-60 times in the atom with the traction control.

Yes, and they are using the same Racelogic system a bunch of us are using. It is very good.

I have driven a number of Atoms, and for the 3 years when they were building them here in Oregon I visited the factory and drove a factory car. A local friend here in PDX turbocharged his and was running around 425whp. My experience in driving it was similar. It was very very fast, and the sensation of speed was even more amazing. It felt under tired, and was easy to get to come around if you let oversteer get to far. Honestly it felt a bit more twitchy then I would have liked. There have been a few come to track days at PIR, and I have only seen one that has really done well. It isn't an easy car to drive fast, particularly if it is a fast course.

It is an amazing car, and make no mistake it is a very fast car.

There was one at TX2K this year racing with the GT-Rs and Lambos:

That EVO and the GT-R walk away with authority. Weight is one thing, but HP is another. ;)

I have been in some pretty fast cars. I have owned some pretty fast cars too (a few 10sec cars and 2 handfuls of 11sec cars). Nothing is like the Atom and I mean nothing. The openness, the intake over your shoulder doing its best to suck you into the engine, the BOV that sounds like a rattlesnake that wants to play a game of "hid the fang in your neck" and a sphincter that that has taken over the job of pumping blood to the rest of your body. Ya it is something like that. A 10sec track car feels like a kindergarten finger painting class. One thing I learned from the ride in the Atom was that I had no idea I could hold my breath so long.

Sponaugle, any idea what the 818 was running for time at PIR?

I assume you meant any Atom times at PIR? I don't think anyone has done an 818 at PIR yet.

Good question.. I'll have to see if I have any videos. There was an Atom running that was pretty quick.. something in the 1:24 range pre-repavement if I remember correctly.

I wish there was another group buy on the racelogics traction control.

I honestly think the Ariel atom is hideous looking. I was into exocars for awhile, but not the Ariel. I was watching the superlite Razor development, but in the end, bought the 818.
