Well, I'd hoped to finish things up this weekend, but it just wasn't to be. All that is left is to trim some of the hood scoop button head screws, add the button head screws around the front of the hood, install the hood latches, replace the trunk weatherstrip with a slightly smaller version of the edge-grip bulb seal (McMaster to the rescue today!), and get the Avon tires swapped on the 15" wheels (bought some narrower tires for the front).

Here are the final pics before the upcoming graduation:

Modified Kirkey low-backs. I cut a bunch of the upper and thigh bolster areas away, added some new edging from Kirkey, then had them completely covered (front, sides, and rear) in leather by a local hot-rod interior shop. While we were at it, we added seat heaters and adjustable lumber - both from Fortes.

Thanks, guys - here's a shot of the rear... I spent a few hours on Saturday just getting the trunk lid back where I wanted it.

Beautiful car.

Not to hijack the thread, but any photos of the seat mods available? I've been thinking about something similar, but wondered how much of the sides could be removed and still have the seat work.

Sure thing - here's the thread I posted on the seats: http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?9637-Modified-Kirkey-Vintage-Buckets-(Low-Back)

Chris, thanks for the link. Can you tell us how much you cut off the seats? 1, 2, 3 inches etc., also, how is entry/exit, do the sides get in the way ?

Wow: what a labor of love. Many will not see the hundreds of extra hours of labor you sacrificed but it will be appreciated by the few enough to make up for it. I've learned a lot about the details of the originals from your threads. Great work! Thanks, WEK.

John -

I updated the seat thread with a little more info, as well as a link to the thread at ffcars on how I did the back braces. PM me if you have additional questions.

No rest for the weary... five years since I started this project and here I am, about to wrap it up on the 5th anniversary.

Well, for those who didn't see it on the other thread, here's the next project... someday to be a Hertz rent-a-racer clone built for vintage racing. It's been sitting in a field on a local farm since the early '80s. This pic was taken after all the trees and shrubs were cut down, including one that was nearly a foot in diameter and grown right up against the body. My wife saw the pics I took a few months ago when I was first given permission to take a look at it by the owner and immediately she said "you have to save that car." I surely intend to do just that - whether it makes sense or not.

I have also found my next project. It's also a driver but doesn't require quite so much work. It does have 289 HiPo heads and a lemans 715 Holley I will be replacing with correct parts that would do very well on another gt350.
