Lets say I am going bare basics, right out of the box GTM, c5 donor, 5 speed porsche transmission. I will not put anything together myself. What can I expect to pay for the labor? I know it will vary, but is a total cost of $65,000 reasonable?

I also wouldn't mind an opinion on the difference in performance and price of the GTM, MK4, and the Daytona coupe. Just going by looks, I would prefer the GTM, the coupe, and then the MK4. But if they are all pretty much equal performance wise, and one build is much more budget friendly, I might reconsider my options.

Thanks!

I think it would be a challenge to find someone to build you a new GTM for a total cost of $65,000. If you're set on a new build you can get quotes from the professional builders that advertise on this site or as recommended by Factory Five. On the other hand, a used GTM is within reach at $65,000 and it will have extras beyond bare basics.

Bill Jenkins (Hayabusa), on the ffcars.com forum, is selling his GTM. I'm not certain of his price, but 65k may be in the right range.

It would certainly be worth a call. I know he has invested A LOT more than 65k into his build!

Hyaba's car is beautiful. For what he is selling it for, is a steal!

That said, the answer is yes. One can build (with a builder) for less than 65K. Time is money, the labor costs (the builder, paint, alignment, A/C recharge ect) will cost you more than the parts/kit/mechanics needed to build. If you do a great job saving money on the parts purchases and even better selling off the donor parts, it can be done for less than the 65K. Before I started the process, I planned for years and without question I will be much less then your target.

As for performance, the GTM is IMO the pinnicle of what FFR as done so far.

This is going to depend greatly on what type of quality you are looking for in your build. If you don't particularly care about how well the body fits or the quality of the paint job, I would guess that you could probably find someone to build you a bare-bones GTM for somewhere in the high $70k's. I know I've run the numbers a thousand times and unless you plan on getting a killer deal on absolutely every purchased part for the car.....like finding a donor for $3k or a good usable trans for $3k or something along those lines, I can not get the parts costs for the car to come in under $52k........which means for me to build a GTM for you, I would have to build the entire thing from start to finish for $13k and throw in a free paint job somehow.

My guess is that if you can find someone to build you a GTM for $65k, the end result is not going to be pretty or road-worthy.

Repeating what was hinted at. . . if you want a $65k GTM, I think the best route is to buy a used one. You'll be driving from day one, and if there is something you don't like about the specific build, you can change it over time.

There have been several nice used cars posted in the $40-$65k range.

I believe the price will get cheaper the more time you give. That or try to tackle it on your own. It's not too bad.

As for me. I can definitely get the thing done for under 40k but I have NUMEROUS hook-ups and I also work for O'Reillys.
