I want to attach some stuff to the inside on the body by glassing on threaded mounts. I remember someone here who got little metal gizmos shaped like a little octopus with a threaded head. After searching, I can't find it. Google's no help 'cause I don't know the name. Anyone know where I can get them? Or something similar?

Pete,

You can get them from McMaster-Carr:

Scroll to the bottom. They're "Perforated Base Studs".

Thanks, Jerome, that's it. It certainly doesn't look like the octopus I envisioned, but more like a little potato masher, but that's what I'll order.

How about using dzus fasteners

Good find Jerome, I was only aware of a place to buy smaller ones at a wood kayak company and never used the right search terms to find them anywhere else. I will likely be getting a few of those.

Dzus fasteners are often used on race cars and work well but I'm building a street car and I'm trying to make it look like a production car with invisible latches and hinges. And, I think I can make ducts for the body vents to direct air and look better. Thank to Jerome, these perforated base studs will enable me to attach stuff to the inside of the body rather than drill through it. . . . . at least that's the plan.

How would one go about in attaching the Perforated Base Stud to the Body?

It gets epoxied in. Look at replica parts build thread. He did that to support his headlights. The perforated base gives a large surface area for the epoxy to mechanically and chemically bond.
