I thought I'd create a thread for this. Not sure if there is much interest but the intent would be to provide a single place where people could ask questions about selling their donor parts.... strategies, interchangeability, pricing, places to sell, etc.

I'll start by posting some info and then finish by asking a question.

It seems most people are selling their donor parts on NASIOC (both in the classified section as well as the region-specific classified section), Craigslist and eBay with good results.

To set prices, I have been searching eBay and NASIOC for similar listings and setting my prices accordingly. I try to sell cheaper than others I see by 10% to 40% in order to make a quick sale and liquidate my parts. It seems the prices on eBay are a lot higher than on NASIOC but who knows how long the eBay items sit there before they sell.

And now for a question: My donor is a 2007. I know that interior between many years and models of Subarus are interchangeable. I know that dashes and center consoles are popular swaps (IE WRX into Legacy, etc). My question is: Would I be better off trying to sell the dash, and all portions of the center console as a complete package, or sell them piece by piece? I have received a couple inquiries for the radio bezel but am afraid to sell it if it will make my center console worth much less without it.

We sold the majority of our 02 dash to a forester owner, all as one, minus radio bezel & AC vent trim surrounds.

We've sold parts on NASIOC, Ebay, Craigslist, and a local Subaru forum. I think Craigslist is in the lead, with NASIOC in 2nd. Ebay, third? Tamra is tracking it and could correct me.

Did you include the center console in that dash sale?

The part on the floor? Shifter boot, elbow rest etc? No. That wasn't something the buyer wanted with the rest.

Yeah ok thanks.

So far I haven't put anything on eBay, but have received 0 e-mails from my CL post. Everything has been through NASIOC. I need to get the stuff on eBay too.

I used NASIOC, eBay, and Craigslist. I extended the Craigslist ad once, but then let it die. I think I only sold 2 or 3 items that way but had to decipher a lot of incoherent text messages. Buyers on Craigslist definitely tended towards texts and away from emails, so if you only have your email address on there, that may explain the lack of response. NASIOC and Ebay have been about even as far as what I've sold, probably a slight edge to NASIOC. That is more related to me putting only the items on eBay that seem to have a solid history of sales on the site.

As far as your initial question on the dash, I've personally tended towards the bird in the hand philosophy.

I parted out my interior and ended up selling the dash along with the shell of the car, which was in good shape, for $500. Sold the tail lights and steering wheel air back on Ebay. Everything else was sold on craigslist. I kept a spreadsheet of everything I sold.
