Speedway sells black Hollywood mirrors that I used on my build and others have used them as well.

I'm probably going to go with these: http://www.hrpworld.com/store/default/body/formula-gt3-mirrors-apr-performance/universal-with-5-5-mirror-lenses.html

For a cheaper route, new style challenger (yes, dodge) look to have the right angle and style to work.

I just received my mirrors today. They're similar to the carbon fiber APR GT3 mirrrors, but cheaper... and I think the shape of these will works better on the 818. $130 shipped (came direct from Taiwan quick) with hardware, and the quality looks good.

So who wants my donor mirrors? (They're white and polished up nice and I already powder coated the mounts black!)

I like those. Looking forward to seeing them mounted.

These style mirrors make a big difference on the 818 IMO.

Bumping this old thread. Has anyone used the mirrors F5 sells in their catalog?

Have you looked as possibly using "Sport Bike" mirrors?
Many bikes have some great looking mirrors and they scale nicely on small cars.
Places like J&P Cycles, Dennis Kirk and The Motorcycle Super Store all have nice selections of after market pieces as well.

Keeping my options open, looking for affordable good looking mirrors that mount solidly so they don't shake when going down the road.

I use these (http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?13414-Frank-s-818R-build&p=206073&viewfull=1#post206073) myself and can see out of them on the track just fine (so at triple digit speeds). I really like them; they're light, they look cool, and they weren't terribly expensive.

I ordered them through Pegasus racing; brand is Race Mirrors (go figure).

My build thread has more pics of them.

I'm looking for ones that use a tube mount so I can mount to my side roll cage bars so they will be stable.

Mirrors are one item where I was especially picky. My car will be for street and I want it to look special. After scanning every car on the road there was only one production car with stylish (sporty looking) side view mirrors. 2010 to 2015 Camaro. These are available from aftermarket but I held out for genuine GM production mirrors. There are 3 drawbacks to using these. 1, these mirrors would look more appropriate if they were scaled down in size about 15%. 2. They require much hand crafting to mount. I have to cut into the door skin. Then, build a solid mount attaching to the metal door frame. 3, part of the exposed lower mounting will require filling and shaping to blend properly with the door. It has turned out to be a bigger project than I had wanted but I do love an engineering challenge. The fact that mounting these is difficult makes it even more special.

Wleehendrick - how are these mirrors holding up? Do you have them installed, and are they rigid enough. I like the looks, but I don't want want them bouncing around....

Got mine from a wrecker and covered them in carbon fibre wrap. They are off a Jaguar XJ6 and are electric so able to be adjusted from the drivers seat. Cost all of $30.

Cheers

Hi Harley,

I wish I could tell you! My build has slowed to a crawl since buying a house last year and working on that.

However, just from inspection, they look solid. They are not quickly adjustable; since you have to loosen and tighten bolts to adjust, I expect/hope they'll be pretty stable. They're light, so if anything I would think wind buffeting would be more of an issue with regards to stability than vibration/bouncing.

Also, both mirrors are convex, so they provide a wide field of view (but de-magnify the image; i.e "objects are closer than they appear").

I have the same as wleehendrick, or very very close. Plenty sturdy but as mentioned, you have to tighten and loosen bolts to adjust them and the biggest problem with that is that the main tensioning bolt for the arm is underneath the mounting point. Once you tighten it, the mirror won't adjust on that pivot point. Taking the mirror out means taking the door panel off.

I just put these on my car this weekend. Haven't had a chance to drive at speed with them yet but my only doubt would be the relatively small contact area inside the door panel (they're held on with two #8 screws w/washers.) Due to the curvature of the door it's going to be touch to increase that much but it's probably the same issue you'll have with any other mirror that mounts similarly. For $45 I don't think they could be beat. (Someone bought one donor mirror for $40 so these were pretty much paid for and look way better.

Brian, I bought del sol mirrors after seeing them in your build thread I think. Do you have some shots that show how you installed?

I saw some Subaru BRZ mirrors and thought they would look good - they are very similar.

Looking for a match to the original 85/86 Ferrari Testarossa mirrors that are mounted on the door frame/ midway up the windshield. Loved the look when I fist saw them, and think they would be awesome on the 818C.
This is an 85/86 - in 87 they went to the corner of the door/window.

Any ideas ?
Thanks,

I've always like that style on the Testarossa as well....the 818 windshield frame is pretty thin though!

Some things I let slide but the mirrors are a focal point. It was a lot of work getting these mounted but I really like the sporty styling.

I like the spacer at the fender/side sale connection.
I have a saying, " If you can't fix it, Feature it."

PS, I like the mirrors.

Those Camaro mirrors are a nice fit with the 818 body lines. I'll have to make a mental note. :). I wonder how they would look if they weren't mounted to the doors but rather make a bracket and fit it in the gap were the windshield, fender and door meet?

I had to space the fenders higher to blend the parts and lines. Here is my solution. Lemon-58593aid out of lemons.
