Fun with pics - I think I'll try to take a bunch of photos of my car that mimic those I've taken of original Cobras over the years... here's the first paring.

This post sent me looking at vintage pictures. I can't believe I have never seen this site: http://cobraferrariwars.com/index.html

There are lots of great pictures. Many coupe pictures too. Maybe you can find a few to reshoot. If you can borrow a Daytona Couple and a Ferrari GTO, you can set up some action shots. :-) I didn't know that the Cobra hauler was an old Ferrari hauler. There is a shot of Cobras loaded up, but the hauler says Ferrari.

Keep them coming. Your car is beautiful.

I have so many pics of original cars - I've been called a "Cobra stalker" by friends - so I'll have to use those to take some pics of my car when it's done and outside. But, here are some more that are pretty close to the angle of the original pics:

In the last two pics you show an original with the center frame brace coming through the dash and attaching to the body. How did you accomplish this on yours? I like it

Thanks
Bill

Bill - Good eyes... that's what I was trying to show in those photos. Here's a link to my bodywork thread: http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?7645-Chris-Bodywork-Thread-Mk3-1

It starts with a teaser post at #32, then continues at posts 48, 50, 51, and 66. The painter finished it off with just a bit more filler after he did his final sanding, leaving a little shaped edge for me so that it looks like the edge of the "aluminum" skin. Once I got the body back, I added a little black paint to the nub below that little edge to complete the effect.

I love the pairing concept. I have seen this car and the meticulous attention to detail really raises the bar for newbies like me. Great job, Chris!

Thanks! My bodywork thread also shows how I did the rivets in the rolled cowl to mimic the way the aluminum skin was affixed to the tubing on the original cars. Those are also visible in those last two pics in post #6 above.

I am loving this photo project of yours. It is great to see the detail shots.

.....hmmmm I have to sink my glove box lid a little further into the dash. The original is way in there. That is on my body off list.

I live near the beach. My gas cap will look "original" in no time if I don't polish it.

How do you like the tonneau cover? I sometimes think about adding one, or even a top. I would have to modify it for dual roll bars. I did my own piping for my glove box, so maybe I could handle it.

Great attention to details Chris. But doesn't the dash frame interfere with the small piece of tubing you added?

Did you add similar rivets to the rolled edge behind the seats?

No - I tested the little stub with the body on the chassis during one of the many body-on sessions. Just follow the measure a bunch of times and cut once rule and it'll be fine. The rear of the lip on my Mk3.1 was about 3/8" from the dash at the top center. When the dash was in place, the stub rubbed against it, which was great for showing me where to trim for the recess.

Yes - the rivets go all the way around the cockpit, front/rear cowls and both doors. For the doors I used the "split-rivets" from McMaster that are made for soft materials.

I don't recall, but they are spaced about five inches apart - seemed to be about what I found on a few of the original cars. If I had to guess, it's probably around 25-30 total for all the way around.

Todd - Ever notice that your neighbor sort of looks like Andy Griffith in his Sheriff Taylor of Mayberry days?

From what I see so far you need to add some paint chips, rust and corrosion. Everything else is looking good.
