I was wondering what are the exact parts you will need from the donor car's door assembly. Do you just need the internal handle or the entire mechanism?

Thanks

Definitely the interior handle, the latch mechanism, and the striker plate. Not sure about the rods in between.

you need the actuation rod and the lock rod if you want to use the lock mechanism

why bother with a lock in the 818, unless you're anticipating a hardtop? I'm far from getting to doors, but I'm certainly not going to bother with locks, and would prefer to ditch the handle and just have a simple pull strap actuate the latch release.

a simple pull strap actuate the latch release.

ORLY?

That's on my list of things to make as soon as I finish my AWIC.

how many of us have already had them lock on us? And yes they are working on the hard top, the lock rod is simple to implement while you are there, it sits in the handle and flops around w/o the rod attached

I haven't got there yet, but thanks for the heads up to fix the latch in the unlocked position! Although it may be easy to attach the lock, since my (and many) 818s will likely not get a hard-top, a lock seems about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. ;). As for it flopping around... I plan to ditch the handle and use a pull-strap.
