Just a question I have been thinking about, I'm not to the wiring section in my build yet but I'm starting to think about mounting locations...Appearance...etc

I will not have any Heater or AC stuff to work around but do have the wiper kit!

So where did you mount your Box and coil? Any regrets... If you could do it over...pros/cons... etc

Lets see some pics of those beautiful engine bays! May I should just start a "Lets See your Engine Bays" thread...

Thanks,

Michael

I usually put the msd box on the passenger side of the firewall and the coil on the front of the head.

In my roadster the MSD box is mounted to the top of the drivers side foot box and the coil is attached to the front of the drivers side head. I ran the wires along the intake manifold for a clean look.

For both of my builds I installed the MSD box centered on the firewall behind the engine. Makes a nice straight shot for the wiring through the firewall (power, tach, etc.) and the wiring to the engine. No problem clearing the wiper. I don't have heat or AC, so no space constraints there either. Some don't like that location due to heat concerns. Hasn't been a problem for me.

Also for both mounted the coil on the DS engine head. Straight short connection to the distributor. Mounting the coil on the head a concern for some due to vibration. I've used the MSD Blaster high vibration coil. So far so good.

Ha Jeff, that's right on. Mine began working when it wanted to, so I disconnected it and found that Ford's ignition was all I needed. Judging from Jeff's great race results I see no reason for the extra weight.

Ive used the 6al and mostly the 7al's for many years and only one failed. Always in the engine bay and mostly in the open weather on offroad stuff.
Now am going to try one of the Fast boxes along with there EFI and a stack setup.

Mounted mine 90 degrees off of the distributor on the top square tube.

Mounted mine to the outside wall, inside the PS foot box. Less engine heat there hopefully.
Coil is mounted to the front PS of the heads.

Gordon Levy, one of the sponsored vendors, engine builder, and kit builder, recommended placing the MSD box either on the top of the passenger foot box or passenger side of the firewall.
He also recommended using the vibration mounts.

Coil, as stated, DS front head.

Box on driver side "f" panel and coil on driver side head. MSD recommends mounting the coil vertical.

No MSD box for me, either.

You DON'T need one.
