Since the exhaust on my MK II is straight through with no baffles or partial plugs actually exhausting flame on downshifting, it gets very hot resulting in two riders receiving quite serious leg burns. As the pic's show we lengthened the exhaust several inches so its end is as far back as reasonably possible and wrapped a brushed metal heat protector around the pipe. We finished by changing the color of the pipes to black to set off the design in the heat shield; cut Cobra into the design and finished by wrapping the header exit with brushed metal with "AC" etched on it to give it an nice "AC COBRA" tie-in between the header exits and exhaust pipes. No one has suffered a burn since and the effect has received many positive comments at cruise-ins. Bob

Very nice, indeed! Question: did you fabricate the shields yourself or buy them?

Real nice touch. I love the individualized details folks come up with on these cars.

Cheers,

Al
I worked with a fabricator on the design and he made the heat shields and exit covers and then installed the heat shields and together we installed exit covers as they required a lot of hand fitting. He is quite talented and has done other work on the Cobra as well as on other cars I have. He has the pattern and can certainly replicate it.

Very nice, I like it.

Will be thinking of this when I'm working on my side pipes.

Nice! I've got heat shields, also, but I still ALWAYS tell my passenger on the way out to be careful, DON'T GET BURNED. After 2 years my wife is tired of hearing it but she hasn't been burned.
