View Full Version : What Valve Covers You using?

Had a question regarding Valve Covers.

I like the Black finned Covers that Say Cobra or 427 Cobra, I do not have engine yet but I plan to have a 351 W stroked with a Roller set up built. So I assume stock height will not work with Roller rockers? I'm not a ford guy but assume its the same as Chevy...

Summit has several, but stock height.

What are you guys using? Is there a Tall version of the Black finned Covers?

My engine builder has specified the same ones for my 351w stroker, but I think there is a 'big block' height type with this look. He showed me the catalogue and I picked these!

I am using the Ford Racing cast ones that came on the 427W aluminum block which are all polished tall ones. I like the black ones better. I think the shorter ones are for the 302 block but I am not positive about that.

The Ford Racing Cobra ones will work with rollers IF you make new baffles. It is easy to do if you have a metal brake. I did this and used the thickest gaskets I could find from Summit. Double gaskets are leak potential, but I guess you could glue them together.

The other option is that there are aluminum spacers. They are not cheap, but bolt on without having to make new baffles.

Oh, keep in mind that there are EFI and carb versions.

I used the black finned "COBRA Powered by Ford" from Summit Racing but ended up having to add a set of spacers to clear the roller rockers and valves.

Norm, thanks do you have a pic of how they look with the spacers? Is it very noticeable?

Here are a couple of pictures. Man do I need to do some cleaning! The spacers came 1.2 inches thick but I had them machined down to .75 inches and painted them black to make them less noticeable.

The ones I have are part #M-6582-W427B and say 427 CORBRA. They are tall enough to clear a stud girdle and no issues with roller rocker with .672 lift cam.

I had to replace the weepy (and it would turn out, distorted) stamped steel Edelbrock covers on my 302. I initially had my heart set on the black finned Cobra covers as well, and looked high and low, but all mentioned may require modification to clear roller rockers. As mentioned, it can be done, certainly, but I just wanted no more weeping. I wish I had known about the spacers! :)

Anyway, here's what I went with from Summit...got the wire looms from them as well. Certainly tall enough, I think they look great, and of course, WAY more rigid.
