Builder Journal/log

For those that kept a journal or log of their build, what software did you use?

I'm looking at alternatives to Word for keeping a full journal on my computer and then sharing portions in a builder log on the forum.

While I will use that, I wanted to keep a more detailed one on my computer that is private and allows me to retain control and all rights to what I write. In addition, I want to ensure that the journal is available to me for a long time in the future. While I hope that this forum continues indefinitely, it seems prudent to me to not fully depend on it.
