OK, I'm a dumb a$$ - I'll start out by saying that to prepare you for my question:
I've harvested the Speedo cable from the donor and plugged it in down at the transmission side, then fed the cable up through the engine bay... but where does the other end go? I would assume it connects to the spedometer gauge... but I can't tell how or where.

Looks like you have an electric speedo, that cable drive ain't gunna work. You're going to need to tap into the VSS circuit to the EEC and run it to the speedo.

Plugs into the back of the speedometer if you have a mechanical speedometer. Looks like you have the autometer gauges, so you probably don't need it. There is a version of the speed sensor that goes where that mechanical cable connects to the trans that has an electrical connection, that provides the speed signal to an electronic speedometer. There are versions of the sender with and without the electric connection

What transmission? For a T5, you need one of these (or similar): https://www.breezeautomotive.com/details.php?prod_id=670. Plus gear and clip. For a TKO, you can use the same parts or use the built-in sensor. Has provisions for both.
