Well, the saga of my nearly five-year build of 7074 continued this weekend with the replacement of some of the last few donor parts on the car. When I first bought my basic kit, I found a nice '94 SVT Cobra to use as a donor. Even before I picked up my kit at FFR, I was drifting away from my original plans, which were for a majority donor build. As time went on, it turned out that I used less and less of the donor parts that I originally planned on using. And, those that I did use, were heavily modified or rebuilt. One of the last systems that I used on the car nearly in the entirety was the brakes (brackets, calipers, nearly new drilled rotors, park brake cables, etc...).
My vision for a vintage looking track car slowly morphed into a more period-correct car and I ultimately decided that I wanted 15" wheels with the Avon CR6ZZ tires, which are radials with a bias-ply appearance. To get those, I realized I'd need to swap out the 13" front rotors, as well as the calipers. Someone on the forum came to my rescue with the front brake system from a complete kit and I bought replacement rotors for the rear to match.
While I was at it, I also upgraded to the current UCA design, which incorporates larger components and, most importantly to me, bushings inside the sleeves at the chassis mount bar.
So, here are pics - a before of the front and then an after of the front/rear. Not really a big deal, but it was the last of the major mechanical things for me to check off my list before putting the body on. Now, if I can just get a few of the last minor chassis things done, I'm going to celebrate with a "lets-put-the-body-on" party!
