I've been following the 818 board pretty closely, and I see there are a lot of different opinions on how outrageous (or not) the 818 should look. It seems like for every person hoping for something that looks like an Aventador, someone else warns against making a junior GTM. I'd like to see how the stats add up. Here are some categories to choose from.
Would you like the styling of the 818 to be...
A.) Over-the top: Exo-cars, LeMans Prototypes, single-seaters, and Batmobiles belong in this category
B.) "Typical" exotic car: similar to Lamborghinis, Ferrari 458, McLarens, the GTM
C.) Toned-down exotic: similar to Audi R8, Lotus Elise, Aston Martin, NSX
D.) Common Sports Car: similar to Porsche Boxter, S2000, BMW Z4, Acura Integra
E.) Other: rally cars? retro designs?
I know not all of these examples are mid-engined or fit the 818 design. I'm just citing them as having different levels of - as Top Gear would say - "Floppy shoes and bow ties"

I would have thought it would have been something more like a miata on steroids. Something small, well balanced, and unassuming... with the potential of being a raging monster for those that like to push the limits. The stock WRX ej20 is no slouch, but at 229hp it is hardly a monster. Drop a worked STI motor putting out 400awhp like I have into an 1800-lb car and you have an explosive formula. Now, I'm not a fan of the miata looks so there is plenty of room for improvement, but add AWD and HP/TQ to a momentum car and now we're talking.

Your car groupings don't make sense to me. Sorry.
For example, Porsche and Integra in the same group? One is a dedicated car on a dedicated chassis. Made with as many corporate parts as possible, of course. The other is a Civic made to be as sporty as possible, BUT, without moving it off the Civic platform.
The other groupings are hard for me to understand also.
The closest one to MY version of the ideal 818 that you have is the Elise.

What do we want, or what is reasonable to expect?
What we want is going to be all over the place - with as few details as FFR has revealed, everyone and their mother thinks the car should reflect their ideals. If FFR only produces one body (see this thread (http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?1227-The-official-quot-What-is-Dave-hinting-at-quot-thread) for speculation), some people will be disappointed.
What has me ready and waiting with cash in hand is that I hear what Dave is saying about how this car must look in general and I know that he has the tenacity to stick to his guns and make that happen. I pontificated on this point over on my blog (http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/entry.php?116-The-danger-of-being-boring), go read about it if you want to see my full thoughts with illustrated examples. :)
So what do I think is reasonable to expect? A great looking design that will stop people in their tracks. Beyond that, it's going to have to be produced cheaply and in this fiberglass stuff, that's going to put a limit on some of these designs.

I guess I'm hoping for something that is shaped something similar to a comon sports car, just with alot more attitude. I'm not sure which category that would fit into.

Not much wrong with the Lotus Elise type of styling and packaging it's a combination that has been proven to work extremely well. Add a little edginess to the styling, more power and a track inspired adjustable suspension and I'm sold.

Agree that these catagories aren't making sense. I'm in the 'Lotus Elise' camp (not that I'm looking for a replica, just that 'category' of sportscar), yet I _don't_ want a GTM Jr, or a mini-me Ferrari. So I voted C, but with the category definitions that choice could be understood to mean what I _don't_ want.

No "look at me" body styles. I want something simple, light and relatively quick.
The fauxrarri crowd can leave ;)

This is what I'm looking for in terms of track performance:

When you start with a clean sheet and have the ability to make it any way you want, why not go over the top?
I mean, if you want a jr exotic, buy a used Boxster.
I'd rather have something far from what I would be able to "buy" elsewhere.

Humm, these categories don't make sense. Forgive me but I'm going to make a new poll.
Exo/Radical
Full-bodied Modern
Full-bodied Retro/Replica
Those should be the 3 choices...
*edit, Bill thought this out...it's hard to really make a 3 item poll. Aside from some of the example cars, Bills categories sum up the schools of thought here extremely well.

Hmm, it looks like things are falling pretty close to a Gaussian bell curve. I was sort of expecting that.
I can see how not everyone would agree on which example cars have more "extreme" styling than others. I guess that's what happens when you try to assign a score to something that comes down to aesthetics. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that...
I probably should have been more clear that this poll is only about looks. The 818's performance is totally up to FFR and the guy building it. Why is the Porsche grouped in with the lowly Integra? Because sorry - neither one has me reaching for my cameraphone when I see one parked at the curb. (I'm talking about Boxters, Caymans, and 911s. If I saw a 918 or Carrera GT that would be another story)

I just want it to look decent. The performance and driving is what I am most concerned with. I voted C, but D is ok too. I don't want an exo car, because I have a motorcycle for wind chill experiences.

^^^ I think you are allowed to vote for 2 categories (if I understood the instructions correctly)

I'd like to see a track car that can be driven on the streets and to a daily job once in a while.
