I bought 215/45/17 tires for the front because that size is shown in the 818 Manual Rev. 1C. I received updates 1F, 1H and 1i and there were no corrections to the tire size. My 215/45/17 tires rub the frame! Then, I discovered that the tire size was revised to 215/40/17 but not included in the Updates. Before you buy tires check the most recent FULL version of the 818 Manual, not just the Updates.

Thanks. This helped me 3 1/2 months later.

Here is the full text from Appendix J as it stands in Version 1i just to save people some time.

Appendix J: Wheel/Tire Specifications
These values represent wheels and tires used by Factory Five on the 818. Anyone referencing this
information can be confident that using a wheel of the size listed below will work, but that other sizes
may also fit.
Front maximum wheel width and offset: 8 inch wide with 40mm offset
Front maximum tire width: 215mm
Front maximum tire diameter: 24.00”
Rear maximum wheel width and offset: 9.5 inch wide with 40mm offset
Rear maximum tire width: 255 (some brands are wider and may only fit a 245)
Front / Rear optimum sizes: 215/40/17 Front and 255/35/18 Rear

Since I had purchased my 215/45-17's last year, I made mine work. STI LCAs with built in added caster, will make it easier. Before trying, the front firewall corner hit the bottom of the tread, and the lower frame touched as well. Look at my build thread for more details, but the gist is a spacer between the steel mount and the rear of the aluminum LCA. Then adjusting the upper arm for the added caster. Finally a 5mm spacer on the steering rack under the bellows to limit steering rack travel. Now it clears. Time will tell about the visual centering in the front wheel well.

I have just tried two 215/40/17 tires on my stock WRX wheels. The tires clear the angled frame but touch the vertical fire wall when the steering wheel is turned nearly fully.

I am lucky enough to have found a tire dealer (Radial Tire in Silver Spring MD) who has lent me two front tires, one Fuzion ZRi and one Nitto Neo Gen. Any suggestions before I return them?
