so when the radiator cap is screwed all the way on, it feels loose and when engine gets a little hot, water starts to leak out of the cap....Do I have a bad cap? is that something that has happened to others that have used the cap that comes with the full kit?

Either the cap is bad, or it's the wrong one.

You realize that there are 2 stops on the filler neck, right? After you hit the first one you push down on the cap and turn it the rest of the way (45 degrees or so) which then seats the cap's spring loaded seal.

I had the same problem, and fixed it by making a washer to fit over the filler neck. I used a piece of rubber (usually sold in the plumbing department of your neighborhood hardware store) that's about 1/16" thick. The gas cap now fits correctly, and locks after pushing it down and turning it ~45 degrees.
