windshields..... what is the legal requirement?

I would like to know what the legal requirements for a windshield are. Is there a certain height they need to be or would a small cycle type windshield be considered "legal" ?

Anyone know the answer to this ?

The design I am focusing on would have a removable windshield, so it could be removed for off road use.

I think it will depend on the state. New York info I found (form MV-529) thanks to the FFR Roadster guys just says "Required on every vehicle in order to pass inspection. Every vehicle manufactured after January 1, 1935, must be equipped with safety glass windshields." Seems kind of open.

I think a removable windshield is a brilliant idea and one that is currently incorporated into my design.
