I have a customers car that keeps draining the battery. It will drain over night. We narrowed it down to the alternator.

The yellow wire that FFR had you attach to the Ignition terminal on the alternator, what does it do? If I unplug it, the alternator will not charge. The wire is live all the time even with the key off. I suspect it is supposed to turn off with the key. Can anyone with this setup see if that wire has 12 volts going to it with the key off?
Thanks Mike

Mike,
I don't have that setup but my alternator does need a "powered" wire to it to signal it to turn on. If that's the case with this setup - maybe you can just put the yellow wire on the accessory side of the key or splice into any "keyed" wire; wipers, radio, efi etc....

Hi Mike:
I have the same set-up but I have not fired it yet nor have I put the battery in the mix. I'm wondering if there is a diode that is blown, my guess is that is the area to check out.
