Looks like I'm getting my rear end early next week. It's coming unfinished, so step 1 is to get it powdercoated. I'm sure there are other things that would be nice to have powdercoated that I could take along and have done for little extra cost. Suggestions?
I'm a month into the build. Front suspension is done. Gas tank is in. Maybe 15-20 panels are in...I decided against coating them a while ago.
I'm thinking things like door/trunk/hood hinges? Other brackets that end up exposed to some extent but don't come finished or finished well?
thanks!

On my car, pretty much everything that was ferrous metal and bare received either powder coat, paint, or POR15. The last coating works great for things like the rear end as it isn't UV stable and can dull with age. It's a rock-hard coating, though, once dry. So, unless you're going for a show-car, I would not bother with powder coat for the rear end. I followed the same line of thinking as you mention above, things that could potentially be regularly exposed to weather received powder coat (as well as those things that are very visible), the rest received a good coating of Rust-o-Leum.

Door hinges
hood hinges
trunk hinges
quick jacks
trunk handle bracket
passenger roll bar third leg mount
I think that's about it.

If powdercoated remove the axle seals as it will go into an oven for curing.

I picked up the eastwood powder coating kit and found a oven with a cracked glass top (oven works perfect) for $40 on craigslist. I think with Powder I have about $300 into it and have powder coated everything I can. Anything that will fit into an oven can be coated. It has paid for itself and I am coating parts I would have probably painted. Can't do a rear end but most of the other parts everyone has listed will fit.

How do you hang the small stuff in the oven, If I may ask?

I use steel, stainless or copper wire and hang from the oven racks.

well, apparently my question is now moot as apparently I'm getting a powdercoated rear end (later today)...things didn't work out with the vendor FF was going to use for the unfinished rear ends.

I use safety wire, just spool out twist hang repeat, I clip the electrical clip to the wire. press the button and verify that you get a spark to each piece before pressing the trigger to spray the coating. No charge, no coating

I powder coated pretty much everything, all the aluminum, any bare metal parts, hinges etc..... I paid about $500 total for everything.
