View Full Version : Spindle Castle Nut Is Stuck

I was trying to torque down the front spindle castle nut, when the whole bolt started spinning, not just the castle nut. Reading some forum posts I found out that a washer is needed between the spacer and the spindle to prevent the spacer from hitting the tapered portion of the bolt.

That's fine. I can buy a washer, but how do I get the stinking castle nut off? I tried an impact wrench, with no success. The whole thing just spins.

P.S. Obviously, my front spindles came in a few days ago, ahead of the first week of July date we've been hearing from FF!

Put a jack under the control arm and raise it so that the weight of that corner of the chassis is supported by it. This will seat the taper of the ball joint stud in the spindle and should provide enough resistance so that it doesn't spin when you remove the nut.

When you use the impact do it in the shortest full throttle bursts that you can. That way the inertia of the stud will add to what Jeff said to keep it stationary while the nut turns.

That worked. When I read other posts, I thought they were saying to put the jack under the A arm, not the spindle. Obviously, that didn't work. Jacking up the spindle worked.
