IMHO the clubhouse was one of my favorite features - is there going to be something similar. I'm wondering if the new forum is going to be too family friendly. I understand the concept, but like I said, waynes pub provided arena for discussions that you couldnt get elsewhere

Not sure if Dave would want some of the things that show up in the clubhouse to show up here.

This site carries the FFR brand...you really think a company wants posts of girls wearing string bikinis or topless pictures? They were funny posts...but not really what a well respected brand wants on it's own site.

I liked the clubhouse, but Dave should really go search what shows up there before deciding.

You can't make it public. It just doesn't work.

Dave and the moderator staff, I believe in the case of a company run forum that a place like "The Clubhouse" may not be the best idea. I say this as an active member of the ffcars members only section. While most of the threads are fun, taken tongue in cheek, and meant in a jovial way, others can get down right ugly......In this case I choose to disagree with my fellow members above, strictly in the case of an absolute need for that type of place here. After all, you want a breath of fresh air here, not the "old boys network/club"...........

Again, just my two cents worth.

Sincerely,

Bill S.

We have got to have a Pub. It is a must!

Gotta agree with Bill on this one. As much as I enjoy the Pub & Clubhouse on FFC it would be a "no can do" for a free site with company ties.

I would fully agree with that statement, and I hate to agree with Bill. :-)

I'm against the free for all clubhouse atmosphere of that site, here. We will have serious discussions here - it's not like we're trying to recreate Disneyland or anything - and there may be some sort of "Clubhouse" here, but I'm thinking the politics and porn will have to occur somewhere else.

JMHO,

I've made my opinion known to the mods here. There are plenty of places on the internet for the Clubhouse type of free for all raunch and politics. It would be more of a liability to this forum than a value. None of the Clubhouse threads on ffcars are integral to the Factory Five brand. Quite the opposite.

I think I have to agree.

I would like to see a Pub like section but in the best interests of Factory Five I don't think it could be the same as "over there". Actually in the past few weeks it has gone a little overboard.

As much as I want a pub again, if I'm really honest about the reputation this forum will create/contribute to FFR, I don't think it is prudent. I'm sad to have to say that, so I will now go and hide my face.

Personally I'm against the idea of a "Club House" of any kind as well as an "Off Topic" area as these tend to stir things up a bit. If you ask me this is a good thing in that what we don't offer here you can still get at FFCars. I think it's important to the mission statement here to have a clean well organized shop while still having the ability to have the other location where you can go to cut loose in the Club House from time to time as well as keeping up with the guys that stay there with their builds.

Hannity has a forum , there are plenty of left wing sites, and several porno sites out there for you to go to if you feel the need

The members could make a pub as simple as linking to a non-FFR forum with a pop-up disclaimer that FFR does not monitor or control content on other sites. For that matter, just create a fan page on facebook and inflict your pub shenanigans there and leave Dave's company out of it.

Leave the rough and tumble to run amok at the other place. They will need a reason to exist soon enough.

Off topic I see a little different then a pub.

As long as it stays away from Politics, Religion, and Ford Vs. Chevy I think it serves to help build a community. When I look at the other place, the closeness of the community is shared via off topic, it is where people have posted information about their children being brought into the world, asking for a prayer for a loved one, and sharing a ton of personal knowledge and information from all aspects of life. Are there times it goes astray? Of course, but by and large I think it is a great asset as long as it is kept in check.

Some of us don't cruise the web ,or try not to. There are other things to do.
I log in to this site to talk , disagree , joke , find answers with people that do what I do.
There seems to be a need for just about everything ,porn is not needed (why remind me my wife is getting older)
but a hot woman in a bikini is not porn, it is on every TV channel and our kids do see it everyday.
Off Topic should include : OFF COLOR or "out of your mind" section where ""fun"" is the topic, not arguing .Being funny is not generic to all ,but being clever with a comment can be appreciated. Some of us have a twisted sense of humor and enjoy throwing it around-for fun.
Politics is in many threads especially as we get older, you cannot deny how it affects our daily lives and it IS how our country has developed and it is US,but this is not CNN vs FOX ,they make fools of themselves everyday on their own.I feel if it is an off centered "JOKE" at politics , that is ok ,but to deny an off topic with "Members in mind" is not American.
Rules are rules and that is up to the publishers.
I never joined the pub ,but I did support the site and I can imagine what went on there.Good I was not there by the way.To take fun out of this new site (for some) is cult like ,but the definition is the hard part.Building a car that is on the edge of insane is not for the faint of heart ,neither are the members.

I would say no to the clubhouse. Lets keep it about the cars and the people and NOT about politics and Nakedness. No room for a clubhouse on a free site.

I don't know what Herb will do without Wayne's Pub.

I think this is a really good discussion. I never went into the pub... now Im wondering what I was missing. In all decisions about this site (and I'm sure plenty of mistakes will be made by good people who simply disagree) I think my job is to clearly set the charter and to always stick to it. The charter is clearly that the community comes first. That means when the hard decisions come down, we will always have to defer to that mission goal above all else. I've posted on this alot in these opening days to keep myself honest over the long run. It has been one day since the site launched. Lets give the team of moderators and everyone here a voice and develop this further. I actually like other manufacturers conversations here. In the kit car world we've always been inclusive. I wrote in one of our very first info packs, "We hope you buy a C-car, and we hope you buy it from us... But regardless (If I had been in New England longer I would have written, irregahdless) of where you buy your car, we are proud to share this uniquely American heritage with you and look forward to seeing you at the next red light....

I don't think pornography or long strings of obscenities are ever going to build a community, at least not one like ours... but lets keep the discussion open and evolving. Personally, I like a higher, tighter focus, but I do understand the OT stuff as we are sharing our lives together at the forge.

Guys,

Dont get mad at me. I am like Ronald Reagan when SNL joked that he pushed the call button for his secretary but pressed the "NUCLEAR WAR" button instead. Did I close this thread? didn't mean to... Dave H., quick get rid of my supermaximum double secret probation admin rights! If you guys want to close the thread thats cool. I just think we w=should come back to the ideas maybe in a week or so since there is so much else going on the first week... !

I never joined the pub so I have no thoughts on it, good or bad, but an OT section is a good thing. Where else can people ask about water heaters or offer tips on the best hot wings, and the many things we deal with everyday?

Jeff Collins

I think OT is a good option, the collective knowledge of this community is incredible.

In my humble opinion, a pub is a good thing. If it is members only and all know that things are not the same as the open forum, then those who might be easily offended can choose not to enter.

On the other hand, a decent off-topic forum (with proper limits) can bring people to the community. It opens up a lot more Google hits and, who knows, some people might discover the world of FFR and realize they too can build their dream.

.

As it currently stands, there is no "Exclusive Area" where this can occur. Again, the focus of this site, is a "Family Orientated" site, where all can come, and participate in the community. Even the "Clubhouse" on the other forum, as Rob J mentioned, got out of hand lately.

As Mark has so eloquently stated,

As much as I want a pub again, if I'm really honest about the reputation this forum will create/contribute to FFR, I don't think it is prudent.

I think all of us have been exposed to Marks sage advise, in one way or another, and his remarks reflect what we are all trying to accomplish. A better site for all of us, with the primary focus on the Community of builders, with the goal to build not only great cars, but relationships that add to our lives.

One of the forums I'm on has a "VIP Lounge" where basically anything goes (sans racism and porn). You can get in via post count, or a moderator allows you access. It's a good way to keep riff-raff out and it's hidden from any wandering internet traffic. Just a thought.
