That is impressive! How long did it take you to finish the wiring?

Did you have to extend many connectors beyond the ones listed in the manual?

Where did your front fuse panel end up?

Thanks,

Buzz

Hi Buzz.
Actual "working time" was about 5 weeks. The start was very slow. Someone else stripped my donor, and that individual did not label any of the connectors, so with the Subaru wiring diagrams, mechie3's and other threads and perseverance I got them all identified and labeled. I then set about (very cautiously) deleting what I was not going to use. That probably took me all of 2-3 weeks.

I had to extend lots of conductors because I chose to mount the ECU and main relay panel at the back and the fuse panel, immobilizer flasher unit etc in the front. The only device I buried in the tunnel was the impact sensor. In addition, I modified my tunnel to have a removable upper section, in case I needed to get back in there to fix something. {As it happens I did have to open it and run a new wire for my reverse light switch, to replace a faulty original one}.

I used a piece of "Unistrut" to mount the stuff under the dash. Check post#8 on <http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?12502-Forward-Fuse-Box> for info on that. My "console" and tunnel mods post#22 onhttp://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?14676-Center-Console&p=163529#post163529 .

Anything else just ask, I have tons of photographs not posted, which I can PM you....not to clutter up threads.

Hi Fred,

Wow, I was getting a bit frustrated after wrestling with the harness for three days. I guess it'll be a long slog.

Why did you need to mount an impact sensor at all? Are you keeping the air bags? Or do you need it to keep the dash lights clear?

Thanks,

Buzz

The honest answer....I didn't know what else it may do, so leaving it was way quicker and less trouble than researching it (and I was not enjoying the wiring "exercise"). I made that decision way before I ever powered -up, so CEL codes etc were not involved in the decision in any way. . I was told by a Subaru dealer shop manager that it cuts the engine in case of an impact say from a collision. So I left it as the path of least resistance. All the other airbag and ABS stuff is gone!

I've learned plenty and if I do this sort of thing again I would be able to do it in 1/4 the time, for sure.
