So I'm getting ready for arrival of my kit and wanted to build a cheap mobile chassis dolly that was at standing height to save my back...

I know I'm going to build slow, less than 5hrs per week and wanted the project mobile to pull out front and center or drag to my bench, spin..etc when working on it and then be able to push-off easily in the corner when I'm not working. not to mention the advantage of building at standing height!

I plan to build everything I can on the dolly, so I may not follow the steps like the instructions, I Plan to do everything I can then lower to jack stands to install engine and tranny. But most everything else can be done on the dolly. suspension, alum panels, dash, Wiring, gas Tank...etc.

I spoke to FF and they said Chassis is 400 lbs. and with it fully loaded without engine and tranny will be in the 700lb range. so still manageable for 4 guys to lower to jack stands.

Carlewns has posted the one he built and I spoke to him about what he would change if giving the chance... and took his design and altered it a bit. I think it will be a great tool!

Anyway I figured I would take the time to draw up the plans with measurements and post some finished pics incase anyone else wants to make one. I tried to give a Materials list and lumber cut measurements to make it more simple for the next guy! Total cost was less than 100.00

Obviously you can adjust the height to your liking. I'm 5-10 and thought this was my sweet spot...

Here are the pics and design:

Very nice! I quite like the idea of working at that height.

Loving the epoxy floor too!

You guys are WAY more resourceful than I am. I was looking for a similar solution but didn't want to build yet another contraption for my garage. I ended up buying a really nice setup from Backyard Buddy. Here is the link. I supports a number of positions on the chassis and adjusts up and down by a foot. It supports 6000 pounds and has wheels that allow me to move the car around the garage as needed. LEt's call this the "lazy guy" solution.

Thanks! I will check out that product - see if I can get it in Canada.
