Now isn't that interesting. It doesn't look like the Whitehouse, but is it an EV?

:)

It's that Philadelphia highschool that builds a car every year and enters into enviro/green endurance races. I think they did a GTM one year as well.

Mark Dougherty and Brendan worked on it to help get it ready. Pretty impressive.

:)

My friend sent it to me from Pete Souza's twitter (white house photographer).

Cool, after a few initial posts, that build thread went quiet. I thought they were building a hardtop/fastback for aero?

I saw this on Twitter retweeted by FFR.

It looks like the same blue I am going to have, I would really like to ask the person who built it, but where is the build thread?

Looks like a moded fuel/electricity cap too?

The tweet says it's a biodiesel car. Liking the color too.

I like the blue too. Reminds me of my wifes mini cooper that is laser blue (not the pre 07 baby blue..bleh). Now to decide if I paint the windshield frame or not.

It's the TDI thread! I had huge expectations on that one in order to see how they fitted the VW engine within the FFR chassis and body panels. Sad there never was updates anymore. Maybe I will find some answers in the flickr pix.

Nice pix on flickr, but absolutely nothing to give me a fitment idea of the top deck lids panels. Oh well.

Half of it. :) Curious to see the result when painted and fitted on the car. :)

Wondering if they are going to make some sort of windows to go with that hardtop or slide in curtains...

Hello all
yes the photo was taken in front of the oval office. on the south Lawn.
The roof will end up with some sort of windows ( needed for MPG )
No electrics just the TDI running Bio Diesel.
( it will still get close to 100 mpg )

Damn, that looks like it's going to be a pretty sweet hardtop design!

Here's some specifics guys. We sponsored Simon and his team at West Philly High School four years ago with a GTM that ended up winning the Green Grand Prix. So when he told us about what he wanted to do with our new 818, we were happy to sponsor him and his team. While we didn't know what drivetrain he was going to be using (his team looked at biodiesel engines, electric hybrid-drives as he did in the GTM, and others), we did know that it would be exciting. Simon missed the deadline for the Green Grand Prix this year, but will make the grid next season. Here is text from a post on our website with more details. - Dave

The accolades keep coming for the Factory Five 818! Simon Hauger and his kids from West Philly High School displayed their school-built Factory Five at The White House this past Wednesday as part of an event sponsored by President Obama’s administration entitled “Maker Faire” highlighting DIY and modern technology that enables small companies, individuals, and enthusiasts to design and build exciting products.

The event was covered extensively on The White House website (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/06/18/president-obama-white-house-maker-faire-today-s-diy-tomorrow-s-made-america) and in The Wall Street Journal (http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2014/06/18/photos-the-six-wonders-of-obamas-maker-faire-tour/?KEYWORDS=maker+faire). The Wall Street Journal picked the Factory Five 818 (which they called “A Magic Car”) as #2 on their “The Six Wonders of Obama’s ‘Maker Faire’ Tour”. Simon’s team is also profiled in The Philadelphia Inquirer. Click here to read the story. ()

Factory Five Racing sponsors West Philly High School’s EVX Program. This hybrid 818 has been measures to produce 98 MPG and will compete in next year’s Green Grand Prix. The team from West Philly has previously won the Green Grand Prix with a hybrid-powered GTM, and Simon promises that this car will do even better!
