OK guys, after 3 long years I'm finally getting around to opening up the exhaust boxes I purchased with the Roadster kit in 2011 (boxes 12A and 13A). I have a 5.0 EFI with BBK shorty headers to FFR straight pipes, and (trying to) connect to FFR side exhaust.

I am confused by what I see at the ends of the straight pipes (1 out) and the beginning of the side exhaust (4 in). Am I crazy or does this look like these parts are not meant to go together?

Note : I am missing the mounting hardware, maybe if I had that my confusion would be abated.

Right below what you have circled on the packing list is the hardware list of what you need to connect the two together.

I substituted allen head bolts for the hex head for attachment to the J-pipes. Hard to get a wrench between the tubes and the bolts.

You can dramatically improve the performance of that area by doing what Rod (DV/DT) did here
http://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-factory-five-roadsters/15562-how-aerospike-mod.html
and here http://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-factory-five-roadsters/16590-how-super-port-your-j-pipe.html
Dyno test results here http://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-factory-five-roadsters/4695-results-exhaust-shootout-videos.html
J pipe porting and aerospike added 23HP for a few hours work.
