I have been very busy at work and saw this project outlined before the launch. I have been looking forward to making a contribution.

Anyway, here is a quick first sketch of a coupe with a removable hard top.

And here is a design I will be working on more so. Inspired by the KTM X-bow, when I add more detail and shadowing, it will be a little easier to see the design.

I figure no doors, no top, removable windshield.......

Interesting stuff, go ahead with color/shadow, i can already clearly see what they are like...

My son's 5th B-day today, so cleaning up the house and getting ready to have a few family members over, maybe tonight I'll be able to DW

New sketch done today, started with an underlay of a design I did a while back which had an underlay from a photo. My own version of recycling.

Anyway, hope u guys like it.

Kinda digging the overall shape, but not liking the oversize jet-engine air intake.

I like this too. Maybe tone it down a bit but definately keep going.

Colvindesign
04-11-2011, 03:34 PM
yeah, going to reshape the intake, not supposed to look that big.

As for "toning it down"..... I dunno, it's kind of supposed to be over the top. I mean hell why not?

I don't understand well why they are 2 parts at the front...Would be nice to have a "return" down before front wheel. Ktm xbow meets citroen GT concept...

Colvindesign
04-11-2011, 07:20 PM
There are actually 5 parts at the front. The side part is a wing, on the side adding stability and at the top adding downforce. Then there is the substructure (the dark part) then there are the fenders. Would like to know what you mean by "return" before the front wheel..... Do you mean the bottom should turn in towards the center of the car instead of cutting off?

Olimk2

That's it! Maybe you should link the two parts with some white "foils" to help visualise the "airflow concept ". I was thinking as well at this kind of mirror integration to push the aerodynamic look at the max...

a few small changes,

not much time today so just playing with it.

Colvindesign

oh, and the side "carbon fiber" panel is controlled by a pushrod to either open a little for airflow, close to heat up the engine, or open all the way to aid in braking. Just an idea that would probably not make it to a kit.

However, if the basic structure (the dark part) makes it through, there could be a large variation of exterior designs.

added a stratos-esque windshield and a removable top/ doors. 1416

I dig it and would like to see more of this design as it develops. The intake and fender design give this a really intimidating, wide and muscular look. Please keep us posted!

I still like this idea, but need to see more so I understand how it all comes together.

i really like this design, with the exception of it not having a windshield. Some US states, and Canadian provinces wont permit a car for street driving without a windshield and wipers.

edit: just saw your last post with the windshield. looks great. Run with it FFR!

Thanks for the feedback. I am now working on a naked version without the "white" panels. However it would be nice to know which suspension pieces are being used from the WRX and which will be fabricated by FFR.

Will they use the Hot Rod type lever actuated front suspension? It would look sweet on my design.

As I look at the few pics I can find of WRX engines and transmissions, the trans is LOOOONG! Wonder if the second section is for the rear wheel drive (and therefore is it necessary on this application?).

I don't think a converted trans is really that long....here's a pic from the web of one, in another makers kit

something tells me that exhaust would be really loud... there is room over the transmission for an 08 style muffler mounted above the transmission

very nice. I found this site, http://www.bremarauto.com/products/subaru-2wd-conversion-kit/ but it is over 450 USD.

Considering FFR's in house equipment, making similar items and including them in the kit should be no big deal.

Cool thanks.

While I don't particularly want a race car looking thing, the engineering and suspension work that went into this looks to be spot on. Of course I'm sure FFR will do just as well, if not better (considering the reviews that the '33 and GTM get).

I'm *guessing* that FFR will leverage economies of scale to work a deal with somebody that already has a kit on the market. Possibly even with one of the companies mentioned. Or with thier new relationship with Mendeola, maybe they will agree to make the parts for FFR.

I'm not opposed to cycle fenders. Just make a few accomodations to keep spray/debris off the occupants.

of course you can always throw a top on. Just need to figure out how to open it from the inside......

It's actually the same car, just without the white panels. This is the benefit of this design, you can do it in a variety of different ways using the same basic components and get a variety of results. Even more varieties of panels could be done as well.

Your concept is interesting but the "aero" parts will need to be produced in closed molds or vacuum formed if form allows to have two "clean" sides.

Multiple piece molds should not be a big deal for FFR. You need to move forward at some point.
