I have a 2006 WRX, and got my gas tank this past Monday. In putting things together I encountered a problem inserting the fuel filter/ pump into the tank.
The first difference was my fuel filter is about 5 times the size shown in the manual. The second problem comes when I tried to insert it into the tank opening.
After some rolling up the filter, this is harder than it sounds since there is a plastic grid on the filter bottom. Next problem occurred when the entire unit does not
go into the tank all the way, thus making it impossible to close.
Any thoughts, or fixes. THANKS Grayghost

It was a big pita. You have to get everything angled just right and then wedge it in. May take some prying with a screwdriver too. The hose they gave me was too long. I had to pull it all out, trim it, and start again.

I also found it helpful to leave the vent uninstalled and shine a light down in to the tank to see the hopper into which it is supposed to go. Also move the riveted arm around to get things to slip in. Got all that from another thread, I was stumped as well.

Hello again 2 days later, after shorting the hose connection about 2" and a lot of twisting and turning my fuel pump is installed.
Now I just hope it works properly. THANKS for all the help Grayghost.

I mentioned in another thread how I too had major trouble installing the fuel pump: the fuel pickup sock actually broke off of my new pump so I had to first repair the pump, then struggle to install.
Yup, it's a PITA. I installed, removed, and re-installed many times to get it how I wanted it. Here's to hoping it works...
